One of the first people to receive a full-face transplant has married a fellow burns patient in Texas.

Dallas Wiens, 27, married Jamie Nash, 29, on Saturday 30 March at a Texas church.

Nash suffered burns to her hands, face and legs when her car caught fire in 2008, as she was making repairs to its windows.

"I am blessed beyond measure that you have chosen me, and I love you with all of my heart," Wiens told Nash as they tied the knot in front of more than 150 people at Ridglea Baptist Church.

"Things happened that I didn't think ever could be possible for me, and you made them possible," Nash replied. "You gave me hope, and you gave me tender love that I will always treasure."

The couple became engaged last autumn after meeting at a support group for burns patients.

It is the second marriage for both partners. Wiens has a five-year-old daughter, while Nash has a 10-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, The Dallas Morning News reported.

"I had sworn off love and relationships," said Wiens, who has undergone more than 30 surgical procedures on his face. "I had no desire to be in one whatsoever."

The couple went out on a Christmas Eve date, and have been an item ever since. "We went to dinner and a movie, and that's all she wrote," Wiens told NBC News.

His betrothed said: "I told him it's got to be love, because I'm not sick of you. I know I've never felt more real than this."

Nash said the couple plan to put their pasts behind them.

"There's no reason to dwell on the past," she said. "It's dead and gone. It burned in the fire."
