Marvel's Deadpool
Close to 50,000 fans have signed the petition for Deadpool to host a Saturday Night Live show Substance/20th Century Fox

Deadpool surprised critics with its rocketing success at the box office and now fans of the Merc with the Mouth don't want to wait around for the sequel to see their favourite smart-mouthed superhero. Over 49,400 people have signed an online petition to get the producers of Saturday Night Live to have Deadpool host an episode of the show.

"How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?!" petition creator Andrew Stege stated on the Change.org page.

And mind you, the fans don't simply want Ryan Reynolds as a host to perform a parody Deadpool sketch. They want the man in red himself. "But not Ryan Reynolds. Like him as Deadpool is every skit, just with a wig and costume on over his normal costume," Phyl Maynard commented on the petition page.

The request has been addressed to Saturday Night Live creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels along with Reynolds and NBC.

While chances of having the Deadpool character host the complete show are slim, considering he is a fictional character, SNL could bring back Reynolds, who previously hosted in 2009, to be part of an episode.

In 2010, the show's producers took note of a petition to have Betty White host SNL and made it possible.
