Florida Rescues 163 Missing Children, Youngest Just 2 Months Old, as Attorney General Vows To Hunt Down 'Every Predator'

Florida law enforcement officers have recovered 163 missing children in just five days during a statewide operation, including a rescued victim aged only two months old.

Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the results in Tampa on Tuesday, while state lawmaker Danny Alvarez issued a warning to those targeting minors, telling offenders that investigators will pursue them until they 'die tired'.

Uthmeier underlined this stance by pledging that Florida will continue to lead efforts to recover vulnerable children and prosecute abusers to the fullest extent of the law.

Massive Statewide Search for Missing Children

The coordinated effort marked the inaugural deployment of Operation Statewide Shield, a state agency-led initiative aimed at locating endangered, exploited and runaway youngsters across Florida.

Officials said many of the recovered minors had experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation or human trafficking before being brought into protective custody.

The operation was planned and directed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement from its command post in Tampa, and its investigative reach extended beyond state and national borders.

In addition to locating minors across Florida, investigators tracked vulnerable children in six other US states, including Alabama, California, Ohio, New York, North Carolina and Tennessee, as well as in Puerto Rico.

Overseas recoveries took place in 12 nations: Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Dominica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Finland, Spain, Italy, Ghana and Taiwan.

Within Florida, the Tampa Bay region recorded the largest number of recoveries, with officers securing 46 youngsters. Miami followed with 41 recovered children, while regional units in Jacksonville located 32. Elsewhere, 21 minors were found in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, eight in Pensacola and three in Tallahassee.

After rescue, the minors were transported to designated regional recovery hubs. At these facilities, child welfare professionals, medical providers and victim advocates coordinated to deliver support services and care.

Criminal Charges Mount in Missing Children Crackdown

State prosecutors said multiple criminal investigations remain under way, with at least three initial suspects taken into custody during the five-day surge. In Jacksonville, 42-year-old Michael Prescott was charged with felony battery, aggravated assault and three counts of lewd and lascivious battery against a victim aged between 12 and 16.

In a separate case, 29-year-old Robert Allison of Cape Coral faces charges of lewd and lascivious battery involving a victim of the same age. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Jayden Harwood of Jacksonville Beach was arrested and charged with interference with the custody of a child and resisting an officer without violence. Additional arrests are expected.

FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass credited cooperation between state prosecutors, local police departments, federal agencies and non-profit organisations for making the recoveries possible.

Glass also urged members of the public to stay vigilant in their communities, saying that everyday awareness is important in identifying possible warning signs of child exploitation.

Ongoing Efforts To Protect Missing Children

State Representative Danny Alvarez praised the multi-agency operation but said authorities must continue their efforts.

'We found 163 kids. That's phenomenal. You know what I say? That's not enough,' Alvarez said during the news conference. 'Because today there's another 163 that are begging for you to find them. We will never tolerate this. We will never accept it, and we will find you. You will die tired.'

Operation Statewide Shield drew on tactical models developed by the US Marshals Service during previous child recovery initiatives, including Operations Dragon Eye and Home for the Holidays.

Attorney General Uthmeier said his office has secured more than 2,000 arrests for crimes against children and recovered upwards of 400 missing minors since he took office, and warned that abusers will find no shelter in Florida.
