Cyberleek claims a GTA 6 build exceeds 200GB, but its contents and the final game’s download size remain unclear before the scheduled console release @RockstarGames/X

Grand Theft Auto VI leaker Cyberleek has issued a public threat to publish an alleged playable build of the blockbuster video game online, claiming the internal files exceed 200GB in storage.

The shadowy figure resurfaced across digital forums following months of sporadic activity, threatening to dump the title on the internet after previously distributing stolen gameplay clips in an attempt to manipulate cryptocurrency valuations.

Industry analysts and technical observers caution that the claimed files, even if genuine, almost certainly represent an uncompressed early debug version rather than the polished retail product destined for store shelves.

Debug builds routinely incorporate bulky diagnostic code, unoptimised textures, and developer tools that inflate overall file size significantly beyond the final consumer release. Furthermore, questions persist regarding whether the leaked archive contains the complete single-player story campaign or merely isolated development sandboxes.

With Rockstar Games targeting an official console launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, gaming communities face renewed uncertainty over retail storage footprints, whilst cybersecurity experts urge players to avoid downloading illicit files that may conceal dangerous malware.

Cyberleek's Threat Raises Questions Over GTA 6

What he could actually publish remains uncertain. The report suggests the files belong to an early debug version, but it does not specify which version Cyberleek has or how much of the game it contains.

That matters because a development build isn't necessarily the package players will eventually download. Debug versions are typically larger because their files haven't been compressed yet, the publication explains.

Another question remains about the main story campaign. Cyberleek has revealed virtually nothing of it, leaving its presence in the claimed build unclear. His description of the files as playable doesn't clarify whether they contain the entire game.

IBTimes UK cannot independently verify Cyberleek's claimed access, the reported file size or whether the build is playable.

Why GTA 6 Storage Estimates Could Shift

Compression could reduce the space needed for the finished game. If Cyberleek's version is missing the campaign, however, adding it would increase the content, complicating any attempt to predict the final installation size.

The report suggests around 150GB might be possible after considering those factors. It presents that number as an estimate, not a confirmed requirement, and stresses that a firmer assessment depends on what Cyberleek can access.

Those uncertainties mean the claim of more than 200GB should not be treated as a confirmed minimum for the retail release. The lower estimate also remains speculative.

Players of other major games are already familiar with large installations, although comparisons depend on what each download includes. 'Call of Duty' is one example, with campaign, multiplayer and Zombies content together approaching 200GB in the publication's account. That compares several modes, not just the campaign.

Open-world games also occupy substantial space. The report places GTA 5 and Cyberpunk 2077 at around 100GB, with storage requirements varying by platform.

These comparisons provide context for the storage concern, but they do not confirm the requirements of Rockstar's forthcoming game. The distinction between unfinished development files and the eventual consumer download remains central to interpreting Cyberleek's claim.

GTA 6 Launch Plans and Future Downloads

According to Metro's account, GTA 6 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November 2026. A separate report cited by the publication places the anticipated PC release in early 2027. That PC window remains a reported expectation, without a specific launch day.

More definite file sizes may emerge closer to the console launch. The report points to insiders with access to backend store listings as a possible route to those details, rather than treating Cyberleek's posts as the final word.

There may also be another download beyond the main game. The report expects an online component to increase the overall storage footprint, and it may arrive as a separate download.
