Rockstar Games is targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the official PC launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, according to a major industry report citing four sources familiar with internal studio scheduling.

The projected launch window, published by GamesBeat, indicates that the computer edition could arrive between January and March 2027, arriving just months after the blockbuster open-world title makes its worldwide console debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on 19 November 2026.

The reported schedule represents a dramatic departure from the historical console-first strategy that has defined the multi-billion-pound franchise since Grand Theft Auto III, notably shortening the gruelling 19-month delay endured by PC enthusiasts following the initial release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013.

While parent company Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar have not yet issued formal public confirmations, insiders emphasise that the targeted deployment remains conditional upon meeting rigorous internal optimisation and performance thresholds.

Meanwhile, Microsoft gaming executives have firmly dismissed circulating rumours suggesting that players could bypass the wait by streaming the console edition to personal computers on day one.

Inside the Reported GTA 6 PC Window

The four sources cited are described as familiar with Rockstar's plans, and all requested anonymity. Their account points to a target for the PC edition, with its release still dependent on the game meeting the studio's quality standards.

A January launch would put the PC edition shortly after the November console release, while a March arrival would mean a longer interval. The reported window doesn't name a specific day, so the exact wait between the console and PC versions remains unclear.

Early 2027 has also featured in previous predictions about the PC launch. The latest account places that expectation in a specific quarter and attributes it to people familiar with Rockstar's plans, though it names no sources.

Previous Releases Put GTA 6 Timing in Context

The franchise has followed a console-first release pattern since GTA 3. The proposed schedule would keep that order, with PlayStation and Xbox players getting GTA 6 before the PC edition arrives.

GTA 5 offers the clearest comparison in the reporting. It arrived on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, while its PC release followed in April 2015. Players waiting for the computer version therefore faced a substantially longer gap than the one now being reported for GTA 6.

That history helps explain why some PC players might have expected another year or more after the console launch. An early 2027 release would bring access forward considerably against that expectation, although the proposed timing remains dependent on Rockstar's plans holding.

For those who prefer to play on a computer, the report therefore concerns the length of the delay after consoles. It does not suggest that Rockstar will release both editions together, or that the announced PlayStation and Xbox date has shifted.

Quality Standards Still Govern GTA 6 on PC

Rockstar has already released official information about GTA 6, while separate leaks have circulated unofficial glimpses of the game. The flow of information has given players material to examine ahead of launch, even as the PC timetable remains unannounced.

The game is expected to be one of Rockstar's biggest releases. That expectation provides a commercial reason to reach PC players sooner, though it doesn't explain why the studio might choose the reported window.

A PC release would open the game to another substantial group of potential buyers. Reaching that audience soon after the console debut would set a different timetable than GTA 5, but the reported requirement to meet Rockstar's quality standards makes the proposed launch conditional.

There is also a separate issue for players considering Xbox streaming as a route to playing on a computer. An Xbox executive has denied rumours that players will be able to stream GTA 6 from Xbox to PC on 19 November.

For computer players, the reported 2027 window provides a welcome indication that their wait may prove substantially shorter than initially feared.
