Donald Trump Faces Searing Backlash After Posting Bizarre AI Tiger Video Following Fatal Yorkshire Zoo Mauling
Twenty-three-year-old former child actor William Chapman died on Saturday after entering the enclosure of an Amur tiger named Altai

President Donald Trump has ignited a wave of international condemnation after posting an artificial intelligence-generated video of himself playfully wrestling a tiger just hours after circulating authentic footage of a fatal animal attack in the United Kingdom.
The controversy erupted following the tragic death of 23-year-old former child actor William Chapman, who died on Saturday, 10 October 2026, after entering the enclosure of a rare Amur tiger named Altai at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster.
Disregarding explicit appeals from South Yorkshire Police urging the public not to share recordings of the fatal incident, Trump posted the death scene to Truth Social with the caption 'Don't ever mess with nature!'.
In a subsequent midnight post, Trump uploaded an AI clip depicting himself confronting a tiger, mimicking Chapman's final finger-pointing gesture before jumping onto the beast and embracing it.
Chapman's grieving family, who revealed that the young man suffered from severe mental illness, issued an urgent appeal for privacy while denouncing the circulation of deeply offensive media content.
Political commentators and digital observers swiftly condemned the post, branding the president's actions as deranged, cruel, and completely disrespectful to a bereaved family.
Donald Trump's Tiger Video Draws Condemnation
'Trump actually posted this AI video of him with a tiger in the middle of the night. This man is demented and mentally unwell,' Harry Sisson, the liberal commentator, wrote on X, sharing the president's post.
Other responses focused on the connection between the two posts, with users accusing the president of mocking a death and the family's bereavement.
'Basically laughing at somebody's death and someone's bereavement,' one user commented. 'Seriously and worryingly deranged - and deeply offensive to the family of the man who died,' a second responded.
'Such disrespect for a tragedy. He is like a six year old brat, kindergarten dropout. He lowers everything. This is disgraceful and trashy,' a third commented.
'Even for him, that's in really poor taste,' another declared. Several comments directly referenced Chapman's family, with users describing the clip as offensive or disrespectful to those mourning his death.
Sisson's descriptions of Trump's mental state reflected the commentator's opinion of his behaviour. The supplied account contains no medical assessment supporting those characterisations.
What Donald Trump Posted on Truth Social
The account of the posts describes the US president sharing the message 'Don't ever mess with nature!' alongside footage of Chapman being attacked. The 80-year-old subsequently returned to the platform with a video depicting himself confronting a tiger.
In the fatal encounter, Chapman pointed his finger at Altai, the rare Amur tiger that attacked him. The animal briefly retreated before resuming its attack.
The later video repeated the pointing gesture but depicted a different outcome. Trump appeared to pursue the tiger and leap onto it, wrestling playfully while smiling and embracing the animal.
The contrast between the two posts underpinned the complaints. The first accompanied footage of a death with a warning about nature, while the second portrayed the president smiling during an encounter that echoed a gesture from the fatal attack. Users linked that portrayal to their accusations of disrespect.
The later clip followed Trump's circulation of the real footage, which police had urged the public not to share.
Family's Privacy Appeal Amid Donald Trump Backlash
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Chapman's family described the distress caused by material capturing his death. Their privacy appeal concerned the wider publication and circulation of the footage.
'The publication and circulation of deeply offensive media content is causing them severe distress at an exceptionally vulnerable time,' they stated.
The family also paid tribute to Chapman, describing a young man loved by his relatives, who returned their affection.
'The family are utterly devastated by their loss and are struggling to come to terms with what has happened,' the statement continued.
'William was a bright, warm and engaging young man whom his family dearly loved - and William loved them back,' the family stated.
His relatives disclosed that he had experienced a 'significant mental illness' for several years. Chapman had also been prescribed 'strong medication', according to his family.
