Moto X (1st Gen)
Motorola has released Android 5.1 OTA update for Moto X (1st Gen). Motorola

Folks at XDA forum have successfully captured the official OTA link featuring Android 5.1 update for the Moto X (1st Gen), which is for the Asia retail version.

For some reason if you have missed the OTA, or it is yet to become available in your region, you can use the OTA link posted in the forum to manually update your Moto X to the latest stock build. To help you with that we have a detailed installation guide below.

The download link is for the Moto X (1st Gen) XT1052 model only. Do not apply this on any other variant. Additionally, your phone should have stock recovery and system version 212.44.26. Advanced users may check out the guide to install Android 5.1.

How to install Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA on Moto X (1st Gen) XT1052

Step-1: Download Android 5.1 for Moto X

File name: Blur_Version.212.44.26.ghost_row.AsiaRetail.en.03.zip (Or, head over to XDA thread)

Step-2: Copy the downloaded file to you the internal storage of your phone and remember the location

Step-3: Boot the phone into Fastboot mode;

  • Switch off the phone
  • Press the Power and the Volume Down buttons together for about 5 seconds and then release them. The phone should enter Fastbot mode

Step-4: Select Recovery using the Volume Down button and press the Volume Up button to boot into recovery mode

Use the Volume Up button to select the highlighted options and the Volume Down button to scroll down to the options in Fastboot mode.

Step-5: You should now see an Android robot with a warning sign on the phone

Step-6: Press the Volume Up and the Volume Down buttons for about 15 seconds and then press the Power button. You should see Recovery option

Step-7: Use the Volume Up button to choose update from sdcard then select the Power button to select it

Step-8: Head over to the location where you have saved the Android 5.1 file, select it and confirm installation

Step-9: Wait until the installation is completed and then reboot the phone

Once the phone boots up successfully, head over to Settings>> About phone to check the new software version.
