The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will see Katniss finally embrace her mockingjay symbol and rise up against President Snow Lionsgate

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2's release, Lionsgate has unveiled two new clips that not only set in stone Katniss Everdeen's plans to overthrow villain President Snow but also look at her relationship with Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone). They also reveal the lasting damage the Capitol caused the latter two characters.

Directed by veteran of the franchise Francis Lawrence, the final instalment will see Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Julianne Moore and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman reprise their roles as District 13 rebels, as they lead an all-out uprising against the oppressive Capitol and its tyrannical leader, Snow (Donald Sutherland). But while the film is bound to be full of exciting action, the new footage simultaneously demonstrates that there'll be a lot of emotion throughout its 137 minutes running time too.

Despite developing an unshakeable friendship and incredible loyalty to each other during the first two films, Katniss and Peeta were forced to spend almost all of Mockingjay – Part 1 apart as Peeta was being held captive by Snow. When they were reunited at the end of the last instalment, their relationship lay in tatters after it was revealed the torture he endured whilst being a prisoner had affected his state of mind and made him want to kill his former friend.

In the clip, Peeta still seems to be feeling some of the disorientating effects of the time he spent in the Capitol, rambling about photographs he used to be shown and how he couldn't always tell which ones were real and which ones weren't. After his short speech, Katniss urges him to get some rest.

"You're still trying to protect me. Real or not real?" Peeta asks gently, obviously alluding to both the subject of the photographs and the confusing times he spent as a hostage. But Katniss immediately reassures him, replying: "Real. That's what you and I do. Keep each other alive." Here's hoping that's not ominous foreshadowing though...

And it seems as if it wasn't just Peeta that was affected by the torture the Capitol inflicted on the pair either, despite her usually tough demeanour. "You saw Peeta, didn't you? Tell him hi for me. We're old friends, you know? We had adjoining cells in the Capitol. We're very familiar with each other's screams," Johanna scoffs to Katniss, but you can certainly hear the pain of remembering what happened to her behind her sarcastic tone.

She may not have come back to District 13 as physically broken as Peeta but there's no doubting she'll delight in taking down the Capitol and all those who hurt her. Without looking at her ally, Katniss confidently mutters: "I'm going to kill Snow." A bold statement to which an enthusiastic Johanna simply laughs, before replying: "Now you're talking."

With Mockingjay – Part 1 mostly consisting of Katniss and her group of fellow rebels mentally preparing for the fight against their enemy President Snow, it appears as if Part 2 will undoubtedly deliver on the action side, as they finally battle their way to the Capitol in an attempt to assassinate the villainous dictator.

Fans who've read the trilogy prior to the movies will undoubtedly know whether Katniss and her comrades win, but the rest of us will have to wait until the film is released on 19 November in the UK to find out. But judging how adamant Katniss seems on defeating Snow in the recently released clips, we certainly bet money on one specific outcome...
