The 3DS version of Legend of Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors will only be playable in 3D on the New 3DS handhelds, not older versions of the device. Producer Yosuke Hayashi confirmed to 4Gamer.net that hardware limitations forced the developers' hand.

Hyrule Warriors is a spin on the Dynasty Warriors series but starring the iconic characters of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series as they engage hundreds of on-screen enemies. Keeping a high number of characters on screen at once meant limiting the 3D to only the new consoles (via Perfectly Nintendo).

The 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors was revealed during Nintendo's E3 digital event and will include all previously-released DLC for the game and new characters such as Toon Link, Tetra, and King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule. These new characters are transferable to the Wii U version of the game.

Hyrule Warriors 3DS will also allow players to switch characters on the fly and will be released early next year. IBTimes UK has reached out to Nintendo for comment on the matter and will update the story once they respond.
