'I'm Doing Much Better Now': 'It Ends With Us' Author Colleen Hoover Shared Her Cancer Diagnosis on Instagram
Hoover first shared the news with readers in December 2025

Colleen Hoover, the bestselling author behind It Ends With Us, has spoken candidly about her recent cancer diagnosis on Instagram, saying she is 'doing better now.' Hoover chose to share her health journey on social media, balancing openness with privacy.
In December 2025, Hoover shared the news with her readers on a Facebook page. While she did not disclose the exact type of cancer, she revealed that it was surgically removed and noted that she would require radiation treatment, but not chemotherapy.
Instagram Update: 'Second to Last Day of Radiation'
On Monday, 12 January 2026, Hoover posted a selfie to her Instagram Stories marking her second-to-last day of radiation at Texas Oncology. The 46-year-old captioned the photo: 'Second to last day of radiation!'
She added: 'I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @Texas.Oncology, but they've been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.' Hoover later followed up with another post saying that she's doing much better and had chosen to keep her diagnosis private until after her surgery was successful.

On 13 January, she clarified, 'I'm doing much better. My cancer diagnosis was a while ago, but I chose to keep it private until after finding out my surgery was successful and what my other treatments would be.' She emphasised that her disclosure was not linked to book promotion, noting: 'It wasn't a ploy to get sympathy-sales for release day'.

First Shared Cancer Diagnosis With Readers in December
Hoover initially revealed her diagnosis in December 2025 within her private Facebook group, Colleen Hoover's CoHorts. She explained that she had delayed addressing recurring health issues while filming the adaptation of Reminders of Him in Canada.
She wrote, 'When I returned home, I found out I had cancer.' She admitted the news felt overwhelming at first, causing her to miss the Regretting You premiere and other personal milestones. Hoover explained that she waited to share the information until she knew the outcome of her surgery, which successfully removed the cancer.
Lifestyle Factors Highlighted in Geneticist Results
On 9 January 2026, Hoover shared further details on Facebook after consulting a geneticist to learn more about her condition. She revealed: 'I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes.'
She added, 'It also didn't come from the two main causes of this cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones. This means it was more than likely environmental or lifestyle-related—lack of exercise, poor diet and stress.'
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Hoover maintained her trademark humour: 'I'm happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right. If you see me at the gym, don't even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I'm probably real mad about it.'
