Overview

The Kolkata Knight Riders come into this game after defeating their IPL rivals Chennai Super Kings in the first group stage fixture on Wednesday. Gautam Gambhir won the toss and decided to field first.

The Super Kings' openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum gave them a very good start, posting 157 runs from their 20 overs. M S Dhoni's quick knock of 35 at the end helped bolster the total.

In reply, the Kolkata Knight Riders made a lacklustre start. Gambhir, Manvinder Bisla, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan threw away their wickets leaving them 21-4 in the fifth over.

However, Andre Russell's knock of 58 from 25 deliveries down the order saw KKR seal their first win of the opening match of the Champions League T20.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Lions made it to the group stages of the ongoing T20 competition after finishing second in the qualifiers. The Pakistan-based team defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians and Sri Lanka's Southern Express to progress to the group stages.

The reigning India Premier League winners would be looking for a win on Sunday, while the Lahore Lions would be aiming to start the group stages on a better note with four points.
