Luke Grimes Addresses 'Dutton Ranch' Crossover in 'Marshals' Season 2: 'Not Out of the Question'

Luke Grimes has confirmed that 'Marshals' Season 2 will not feature a 'Dutton Ranch' crossover, with no on-screen reunion planned between Kayce Dutton, Beth Dutton or Rip Wheeler this year – although the actor insists it is 'not out of the question' for the future.

Speaking ahead of the new season of the 'Yellowstone' spinoff, Grimes said he and Kelly Reilly have already 'texted about it back and forth a lot', and believes a Kayce–Beth reunion would be 'fun and necessary' for how their family saga ultimately concludes.

No 'Dutton Ranch' Crossover in Season 2

'Marshals' Season 2 will not feature appearances from Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton or Cole Hauser's Rip Wheeler. The pair are currently at the centre of 'Dutton Ranch', another 'Yellowstone' spinoff that follows Beth and Rip in Texas.

Grimes confirmed the absence of the characters in an interview, but stopped short of ruling out a meeting between Kayce and Beth altogether. 'It's not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point,' he said.

Grimes also shared that he and Reilly have 'texted about it back and forth a lot, talked about how it'd be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they're going to end'.

The possibility is particularly significant because Beth is effectively one of the last members of Kayce's immediate Dutton family. With John Dutton and other members of the family no longer part of Kayce's daily life, a reunion between the siblings could carry considerable emotional weight.

Kayce Has Other Priorities in Season 2

For now, however, Kayce's attention is firmly on his son Tate. The second season picks up after the dramatic events of the 'Marshals' Season 1 finale, in which Tate was kidnapped by rancher Tom Weaver. Season 2 begins with Kayce and his team working to rescue him.

According to Grimes, Tate's experiences with violence and danger have become a major part of Kayce's emotional journey. The character is determined to protect his son, although his attempts to help do not always have the desired effect.

That relationship gives Kayce a different kind of family story in 'Marshals'. Rather than relying on the Dutton network that once surrounded him, he is increasingly dependent on his fellow US Marshals. Grimes described Kayce as essentially being on his own, with his colleagues filling some of the role that his family previously played in his life.

Why Beth and Kayce Could Reunite

A future meeting between Kayce and Beth would nevertheless have plenty of dramatic potential. Beth is Kayce's sister, and their relationship was an important part of the original 'Yellowstone'. With Beth now living a separate life with Rip, while Kayce has established himself as a US Marshal in Montana, their paths have naturally diverged.

Grimes believes that makes a future conversation between the characters worthwhile. He explained that Beth is essentially Kayce's only surviving family member besides Tate, giving the siblings a strong reason to reconnect eventually.

The actors themselves appear enthusiastic about the possibility, with Grimes saying he and Reilly have discussed how such a reunion could benefit their respective story arcs.

When Could the 'Dutton' Crossover Happen?

There is currently no confirmed date or storyline for a 'Marshals' and 'Dutton Ranch' crossover. Grimes' comments amount to an indication that the door remains open rather than an announcement that one is officially planned.

For now, 'Marshals' Season 2 will continue focusing on Kayce's work, his relationship with Tate and the challenges facing his US Marshals team. The season is scheduled to premiere on 4 October 2026 on CBS.

A Dutton family reunion may therefore have to wait. But with Grimes and Reilly already discussing the idea, fans have reason to hope that Kayce and Beth could eventually share the screen again.
