Marcello Hernández turned his first appearance as an Emmy presenter into one of the ceremony's more unexpected comedy moments after singling out Zendaya from the audience and inviting her to dinner, with her husband, Tom Holland, sitting right beside her.

The Saturday Night Live star was presenting the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on 14 September when he decided to use his time on stage to greet several of the famous faces in the room.

Rather than simply sticking to the presentation, Hernández explained that he wanted to take the opportunity to say hello to celebrities he might not get another chance to speak to during the evening.

After greeting Harrison Ford, he turned his attention towards Zendaya, who was seated alongside Holland. Hernández immediately admitted that he had struggled to act casually after spotting the Euphoria actress.

'I want to say hi to Zendaya,' he said. 'You're a beast and you're amazing, and I saw you and I wanted to play it cool, and I decided I can't do that.'

He then delivered the punchline that had Zendaya laughing.

'So, I would like to invite you and Spider-Man to have dinner at my house.'

Zendaya, Tom Holland React to the Unexpected Invite

The camera quickly cut to Zendaya and Holland, capturing their reaction as Hernández extended the unusual dinner invitation from the Emmy stage.

Zendaya appeared amused by the comedian's comments before turning towards Holland, who was sitting beside her. The couple smiled and laughed as Hernández continued with his presentation.

The reference to Holland as 'Spider-Man' was particularly fitting given the pair's connection to the Marvel franchise. Zendaya and Holland have starred together in the Spider-Man films, with their on-screen relationship between MJ and Peter Parker eventually becoming closely associated with their real-life relationship.

The couple's appearance at the 2026 Emmys also attracted attention, as it marked a major public appearance together following their wedding earlier in the year.

Hernández Wasn't Finished With His Dinner Invitations

Zendaya and Holland were not the only Hollywood stars to receive an invitation from Hernández. The comedian also singled out Ford, telling the legendary actor that he was a major inspiration before inviting him to dinner at his house.

He then addressed Oscar Isaac, joking about their shared surname and suggesting that they could potentially be cousins. Hernández even joked that he would see Isaac at Christmas and cook whatever he wanted.

The comedian also attempted to include Matthew McConaughey in his series of greetings, although the actor was not sitting in the audience at that particular moment.

Hernández's improvised-style segment ultimately became one of the lighter moments of the ceremony, with the comedian turning a standard award presentation into a string of playful celebrity invitations.

For Zendaya and Holland, however, the moment was especially memorable because Hernández's dinner offer unfolded directly in front of the cameras, and with the couple sitting side by side to enjoy the joke.
