Megan Thee Stallion Admits She's Still in 'Shock' Over Her 'Abrupt' Breakup With Klay Thompson

Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about her split from NBA star Klay Thompson, revealing that she remains 'in shock' months after their relationship ended.

The Grammy-winning rapper discussed the breakup in a Marie Claire cover story published on Tuesday, 29 September. Megan, 31, said the separation was particularly difficult because of how suddenly the relationship came to an end.

'It was so abrupt. I'm in shock still,' she said.

Megan and Thompson, 36, were first linked in summer 2025 before making their relationship public. They made their red-carpet debut at Megan's Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York in July that year.

Their relationship ended in April 2026 after Megan accused Thompson of being unfaithful. She later confirmed the split in a statement.

'Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there's no real path forward,' Megan said at the time.

Thompson has not publicly responded to the cheating allegation.

Rapper Says She Was 'Constantly on Edge'

While Megan described the breakup as unexpected, she said there were signs that the relationship was causing her significant emotional strain.

'When something is meant for you, it's gonna be easy. It's gonna be right. It's not gonna feel like a panic all the time,' she explained.

'I feel like that's what I was in, constantly on edge. My nervous system needed to calm down.'

Megan said she is deliberately allowing herself to process the experience rather than attempting to move on quickly.

'I'm still not eating all the way right. I'm feeling all the feelings. I'm not trying to take no shortcuts,' she said.

She also acknowledged that she had sometimes ignored her instincts by giving people 'the benefit of the doubt'.

'Sometimes I be knowing in my gut and in my heart, then you give so much benefit of the doubt,' she said. 'No, the gut is always right. Listen.'

Megan added that she is not interested in entering another serious relationship soon.

'I've never, ever, ever been in a relationship like that, ever. So I'm definitely not worried about another one for a long time,' she said.

Broadway Setback and New Music

The breakup came during an unusually demanding period for Megan, who was making her Broadway debut as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

She joined the production in March but was taken to hospital after becoming unwell during a performance. Megan later said she feared she was having a stroke, with severe dehydration, exhaustion and a panic attack contributing to the episode.

She subsequently shortened her Broadway run, announcing that her final performance would be 1 May rather than the originally planned 17 May.

Megan has since shifted her focus back towards music. She is working on Act III, the next instalment of her Megan album series, and released 'Tina Tuesday Freestyle' on 29 September.

Thompson, meanwhile, has entered a new chapter in his NBA career. The five-time All-Star joined the Miami Heat in August after agreeing to a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks. He signed a two-year contract worth about $11.5 million (£8.6 million), with a player option for the second season.

For Megan, however, romance appears to be taking a back seat as she focuses on recovering from the breakup and continuing her career.
