Seventh seed, Berdych continued his surge in the tournament ousting John Isner in the fourth round on Tuesday. The Czech Republican needed just over 90 minutes to overcome the 10th seeded American, 6-3, 7-5, in straight sets.
The 28-year-old will now take on Dolgopolov, who secured his place in the quarter finals upsetting World number three, Stanislas Wawrinka in the previous round. The Ukrainian clinched the first set, 6-4, only to fall, 3-6, to the Swiss number one in the next set.
However, Dolgopolov regained his focus and was unfazed in the deciding set to defeat the the Australian Open champion, 6-1, to extend his run in Miami.
The winner of this match between Berdych and Dolgopolov is lined up to face the winner of the other quarterfinal fixture between Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic in the semifinal.
Berdych, who was eliminated at the same stage of this competition last year will be keen to prevent his opponent from causing another upset in the tournament while hoping to add to his existing head-to-head record against Dolgopolov.
Berdych holds a 3-0 lead against Dolgopolov in overall meetings with none of them coming in Grand Slam events.
