Miley Cyrus' 'Bass Persuades' Used 16 Vinyl Variants Before Historic Billboard 200 Drop
Miley Cyrus turns heads with a provocative onstage gesture as her new album Bass Persuades records a historic Billboard 200 decline

Miley Cyrus' new album Bass Persuades has fallen from No. 1 to No. 157 on the Billboard 200 in its second week, marking the biggest second-week drop from No. 1 by a female artist in the chart's history.
The fall follows a narrow debut victory over country singer Ella Langley's Dandelion. Bass Persuades opened with about 61,000 equivalent album units, with the release offered in 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download versions and a cassette, according to reports.
Early projections had Bass Persuades opening outside the top five. Atlantic Records also reduced the price of the digital album and offered the release in multiple physical and digital formats. The album ultimately opened with about 61,000 equivalent album units, narrowly beating Dandelion by roughly 70 units.
The result was celebrated at the time. Cyrus and Atlantic Records celebrated the No. 1 debut with a floral display shaped like the number one, according to reports.
'Bass Persuades being #1 transcends a win,' Cyrus wrote. 'This process has been some of the best times for me. Everyone involved made it possible and more importantly fun and memorable.'
She thanked Atlantic Records, her team and her fans, adding, 'To the fans, you make my world go round. Making music for you brings immeasurable joy to my life. Forever.'
A Historic Chart Fall
The latest Billboard position has added a striking second chapter to that No. 1 debut. Bass Persuades dropped 156 places in one week, from No. 1 to No. 157.
That makes it the biggest second-week fall from No. 1 by a female artist in Billboard 200 history. Madonna previously held the benchmark when Madame X fell from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019. Céline Dion then surpassed that mark when Courage fell from No. 1 to No. 111 later that year.
Bon Jovi's This House Is Not for Sale recorded a larger numerical fall, dropping from No. 1 to No. 169 in 2018. However, the album had returned to the top of the chart nearly two years after its original release.
The second-week figures raise a broader question: how much of the album's No. 1 debut was driven by the label's multi-format sales strategy, and how much reflected sustained consumer demand? The second-week figures do not settle that debate, but they highlight the sharp difference between the album's opening-week sales and its performance one week later.
The Sales Strategy
Atlantic Records released the album in 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download editions and a cassette, while also reducing the price of the digital album, according to reports.
The release strategy coincided with a narrow No. 1 victory over Dandelion. The two albums were separated by roughly 70 equivalent album units, with Bass Persuades opening at about 61,000 units.
The album is Cyrus' first full-length release under Atlantic Records after she left Columbia Records earlier this year. Its immediate success gave the label a prominent chart result, although the second-week figures have sharply altered the momentum surrounding the release.
Cyrus' Recent Chart Performance
Cyrus' previous album, 2025's Something Beautiful, debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, earning 44,000 equivalent album units in its opening week.
Her recent chart profile has also been shaped by 'Flowers,' the 2023 single that became one of her biggest career successes and won Record of the Year at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Cyrus has not mounted a full tour since the Bangerz era, although she has continued to make individual live appearances. She is scheduled to perform two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and 18, 2026.
Interest in the shows has been significant. Reports said nearly 1.5 million fans joined the presale queue for 18,000 tickets. The figure refers to the queue rather than the number of people who ultimately attempted to purchase tickets or were unable to secure them.
What Happens Next?
Taylor Swift returned to No. 1 with The Life of a Showgirl, helped by its deluxe The Encore edition, which added four tracks.
The latest positions for Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love and Langley's Dandelion should be checked against the relevant Billboard 200 chart before publication.
Langley's performance remains an important point of comparison for Cyrus. While Dandelion has continued to chart strongly, Bass Persuades has gone from a narrow No. 1 debut to No. 157 in the space of one week.
Speaking to Zane Lowe about the Hollywood Bowl shows, Cyrus explained why she chose the venue.
'I chose to do the show at the Bowl because I knew that my bed was only going to be like a 10-minute drive home by 11,' she said, according to coverage of the Apple Music interview.
Cyrus also referred to the demand for tickets, saying, 'I don't need to drive to you. Proven. That was a test. I win.'
Whether Bass Persuades can recover remains unclear. What is confirmed is the scale of its fall, a drop of 156 places in its second week, from No. 1 to No. 157, and the biggest second-week decline from No. 1 by a female artist in Billboard 200 history.
