Trump's China Trip With Natalie Harp Raises Eyebrows Over Her Extraordinary Access to the President

Donald Trump's trip to China came with all the usual trappings of a high-stakes presidential visit, but it was one relatively unfamiliar face that quickly attracted attention.

Natalie Harp, Trump's fiercely loyal Executive Assistant, travelled with him to Beijing while First Lady Melania Trump remained in the United States.

Harp has been described as a constant presence who helps shape the information Trump sees, assists with his social media activity and enjoys access that has reportedly surprised even senior members of his team.

Harp Joined Trump on the China Trip

When Trump travelled to Beijing in May 2026 for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Harp was among the people accompanying him. The delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's son Eric Trump, Lara Trump and prominent business figures, but Harp stood out because of the extraordinary level of attention already surrounding her position.

The optics immediately fuelled questions about why a relatively low-profile Executive Assistant was so consistently close to the president during major international and domestic engagements.

That question has become increasingly difficult to ignore because Harp is not simply a conventional administrative aide. Her official role gives her access to Trump's daily routine, while reports have portrayed her as a gatekeeper who helps determine which news stories, social media posts and other material reach him.

Her 'Human Printer' Role Gives Her Unusual Influence

Harp became known inside Trump's orbit as the 'human printer' because she reportedly carries a portable printer and produces physical copies of articles and social media posts for the president. Trump is known to prefer printed material, meaning Harp can play a direct role in the information placed in front of him.

The Financial Times recently described her as one of Trump's most trusted confidantes, while other reports have characterised her as an 'instant enabler' of his impulses.

Her access has reportedly extended far beyond printing documents. She has been described as frequently present during meetings and involved in managing Trump's Truth Social activity, giving her a front-row position in the president's communications operation.

That influence has also created controversy. CNN recently reported that Harp once climbed into the boot of an SUV to accompany Trump to a New York court appearance after staffers told her there was no room for her in the motorcade. The extraordinary episode became another example of the lengths to which she was reportedly prepared to go to remain close to Trump.

Melania's Absence Made the Beijing Optics More Striking

The China trip became even more eye-catching because Melania was not there.

That does not, by itself, indicate anything improper. First Ladies do not automatically accompany presidents on every overseas trip, and Harp was travelling in an official capacity as part of Trump's team.

Still, the contrast was difficult for observers to miss. Harp has become a near-permanent fixture around Trump, while Melania has maintained a considerably lower public profile during his second term.

The First Lady recently returned to public view after more than a month away from major appearances, further intensifying interest in the contrasting roles of the two women around the president.

From carrying a printer to travelling on major international trips, her rise has transformed her from a little-known Trump supporter into one of the most discussed figures in his inner circle.
