Up to 25 people have been injured in a serious accident in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, after the roof of a double decker bus was ripped off when the driver misjudged a low bridge.

Many of the walking wounded were seen walking away from the scene in the North West with at least two reported to have serious facial injuries from the crash on Milkstone Road.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the crash had happened at Milkstone Road earlier today but that there had been "no fatalities". She did, however, confirm that there had been some "serious facial injuries" due to the accident.

The spokeswoman confirmed that the roof of the bus had been completely torn off. A formal statement will be released by Greater Manchester Police later today.

Emergency services attended near the town's main railway station shortly after 12pm earlier today (9 September). It's understood that a dozen vehicles attended the scene to administer urgent medical care.
