The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona saw the launch of Samsung Galaxy Beam and Nokia 808 PureView, besides a host other handsets.

Both Galaxy Beam and Nokia 808 PureView may not compete with high-end smartphones. However, they have certain special features which differentiate them from other smartphones.

The main feature of Nokia 808 PureView is its 41 megapixel camera. It is the biggest camera to date on a smartphone, making it a revolutionary smartphone.

Nokia 808 PureView technology brings together high resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia-developed algorithms for that high-end imaging experience. And as the phone uses Nokia Rich Recording which enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones.

Technically the sensor is able to capture 3 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 38 MP at 4:3 aspect ratio and 2 MP, 5 MP [Default], 8 MP, 34 MP at 16:9. The phone won the Best New Mobile Handset award at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Nokia's new handset has been made available for pre-order in the UK. According to Unlocked Mobiles, the Nokia 808 PureView will be hitting the UK on April 23.

The phone is a SIM-free device and Nokia has not yet announced official pricing for the device. However, it appears that Nokia 808 PureView will cost around £464.98 or £450 when it arrives in the United Kingdom.

Samsung Galaxy Beam, on the other hand, is a smartphone specifically build with HD projector. The odd device is available for pre-order at Unlocked-Mobiles.com. The phone may arrive in July. The SIM-free version of the device is priced at £385 ($610).

Size: Nokia 808 PureView has a dimension of 123.9 x 60.2 x 13.9 mm weighs 169 g compared to Samsung Galaxy Beams 124 x 64.2 x 12.5 mm and 145.3 g.

Display: Both smarphones feature 4-inch display. However, the Nokia device has AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 360 x 640 pixels resolution whereas Samsung's handset has Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Storage: Nokia PureView will come with 16 GB storage, 1 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM while Beam features 8 GB storage and 768 MB RAM. Both the phones have microSD support up to 32 GB.

Speed/WLAN/Bluetooth/USB: Nokia and Samsung handsets have common support features like HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP and microUSB version 2.0. However Nokia also has support of UPnP technology.

Camera: Nokia has 41-mepaixel (38-megapixel effective, 7152 x 5368 pixels) camera capable of recording videos at 1080p along with a secondary VGA camera. Samsung Beam has 5 megapixel 2592 x 1944 pixels camera capable of recording videos at 720p and a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera.

Operating System: With Nokia Belle OS, Nokia handset differs from Samsung Galaxy Beams Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Processor: There is a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor found in Nokia device whereas Beam features dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor.

Battery: Samsung's phone has Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery compared to Nokia's Li-Ion 1400 mAh battery.

Nokia's handset also features HDMI port support while most of other basic features remain common in both the smartphones.
