'Scream' Actor C.W. Morgan Found Dead in Bathroom at 72 as Questions Surround His Cause of Death
Behind his role as Billy Loomis' father were shared drives, coffee outings and a sense of humour his daughter says she inherited

C.W. Morgan, who played Billy Loomis's father in Scream, has died aged 72. Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records reviewed by entertainment publications list his date of death as 30 August and his place of death as a bathroom. Us Weekly reported that his cause of death was listed as deferred, meaning a final determination had not been made.
News of his death emerged on 8 October, when TMZ reported that the Los Angeles Police Department considered it an apparent natural death. Morgan's daughter remembered their drives, coffee outings and shared humour in a social-media tribute, writing that losing him had left 'the biggest hole in my heart'.
Medical Examiner's Determination Remains Pending
An LAPD spokesperson told TMZ that officers responded to a death-investigation call and that Morgan's death appeared to be from natural causes. That was a preliminary police assessment, separate from the medical examiner's final determination.
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told the outlet that crews received a call concerning an unconscious adult male. Morgan was not transported because the incident became a coroner's case.
Entertainment Weekly, which also reviewed the medical examiner's records, reported that the manner of death remained under examination.
The reports identified a bathroom in Los Angeles County as the location of Morgan's death. They did not identify who discovered him or establish that the property was his home.
Daughter Remembers Drives, Coffee and Shared Humour
Morgan's daughter recalled their Mulholland drives and Starbucks outings in her tribute. Her message offered a portrait of their everyday relationship away from his screen appearances.
'Losing you has left the biggest hole in my heart,' she wrote.
She also expressed how much she already missed him and described herself as grateful and lucky to have had him as her father.
Among the qualities she remembered were his poorly timed jokes, which she said she had inherited. Those recollections accompanied memories of the familiar outings they shared.
Morgan Played Billy Loomis's Father in Scream
Morgan portrayed Hank Loomis, the father of Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich, in Wes Craven's 1996 film Scream.
Hank appears during Billy's questioning by police, arriving to support his son. The scene places Morgan alongside one of the characters central to the investigation into the Woodsboro killings.
The character's affair with Maureen Prescott, Sidney Prescott's mother, forms part of Billy's family backstory. The relationship contributed to the breakdown of the Loomis family and connected Hank to Sidney's family.
Although Hank was a supporting character, those connections made him part of the history underlying the original film's central conflict.
Hank Loomis Also Appeared in Scream 3
Morgan was also seen in Scream 3 through archive footage, rather than a newly filmed performance for the sequel.
That appearance extended Hank's connection to the franchise and its account of Maureen Prescott's past.
For Scream viewers, Morgan was familiar as the father of one of the original film's killers. His daughter's tribute remembered a different side of him: a father associated with drives, coffee stops and jokes she carried into her own life.
Her message centred on gratitude for their time together and the loss of the everyday companionship they had shared.
