South Carolina Mother Accused of Attacking Two Children Found Covered in Blood, One Faces Possible Amputation

A South Carolina mother has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after her two young children were found alone and covered in blood inside their home following an alleged knife attack. Authorities discovered the children during a welfare check requested by the suspect's former boyfriend.

Taylor Gosnell, 35, is accused of attacking her three-year-old and six-year-old children with a knife and a blunt object at a property in the 1400 block of Bud Arthur Bridge Road in Spartanburg County on 26 September.

The children suffered numerous injuries, with prosecutors saying during Gosnell's bond hearing that some of the lacerations were deep enough to reach the bone. The six-year-old suffered severe damage to an arm that could ultimately require an amputation, according to the 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office. Both children were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and were reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover.

Ex-Boyfriend Requests Welfare Check

Deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office were called to the property shortly after 2:30 PM on 26 September to check on the welfare of the children.

The children were found unattended inside the home shortly after 2:30 PM on 26 September. Lt. Graham McLellan of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said, 'Between the two children, we're estimating that there were approximately 50 stab wounds.'

The house also showed signs of a violent disturbance. The 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office said several televisions and mirrors at the residence had been shattered. Investigators later determined that Gosnell had allegedly attacked the children with both a knife and a blunt object.

Mother Taken For Mental Evaluation

Gosnell reportedly returned to the property while deputies were investigating the children's injuries. During the subsequent encounter, prosecutors said concerns were raised about her mental state.

Reports say Gosnell appeared distressed and told authorities she was experiencing 'visions,' according to a report by PEOPLE. She was taken by ambulance for an evaluation after being detained.

According to authorities, Gosnell attempted to flee while being transported in the ambulance but was restrained. Gosnell was subsequently booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center shortly before midnight, according to local reports. She was later denied bond during a hearing.

Meanwhile, the children were placed in protective custody following the incident.

Mother Faces Two Attempted-Murder Charges

Gosnell faces two counts of attempted murder in connection with the alleged attack. The charges were announced after investigators said they determined Gosnell had attacked the children.

The suspect also has previous charges pending of child endangerment from 2024, according to the sheriff's office. However, there has been no publicly disclosed explanation for what prompted the alleged attack.

Authorities stated that further information may be released as the investigation progresses. If convicted of both attempted-murder charges, Gosnell could face a combined maximum sentence of 60 years in prison, according to local reporting.

Gosnell's next court appearance is scheduled for 12 November, according to public records. The six-year-old's prognosis remains an important unresolved detail, with the extent of the arm damage leaving open the possibility that the child could require an amputation. The current reports do not establish whether doctors have made a final decision on the procedure.
