The latest episode of irreverent American cartoon South Park is likely to anger the Russian elite as it features Jesus Christ in a Free Pussy Riot t-shirt.

In a desperate attempt to clean up his image after being accused of making miracles while being high - a reference to the recent doping scandal involving cyclist star Lance Armstrong - Jesus starts a campaign on behalf of Belarusian farmers struggling against the government.

The coloured plastic bracelet associated with the campaign goes viral. Even Stan, one of the show's main characters, refuses to get rid of it when people start losing trust in Jesus.

"Rocked by the recent news of drug use by a beloved icon, the world is left feeling lost and betrayed. The boys join with the rest of the nation, and remove their yellow wristbands. Everyone is on board, except for Stan, who just can't seem to cut off his bracelet," the summary to the episode said.

At the end of the episode, Jesus addresses a crowd of residents from South Park, the fictional American town created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

"Let's keep our causes where they belong, which is right here," he says "on T-shirts. Free Pussy Riot!"

Three members of the band, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, were sentenced to two years in prison by a Russian court for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred or hostility

Samutsevich was released after a Moscow appeal court accepted her new lawyer's argument that she was pulled out of the cathedral by security guards before she took part in the performance. The two jailed members were transferred to Soviet-style prison camps in the Russian Urals cities of Perms and Mordova.

The latest "South Park" episode, A Scause for Applause, aired on October 31 and is available on the show's website.
