Overview

Wawrinka has been given a massive boost for the crucial tie as he defeated former world number one Roger Federer in the quarter final of this year's French Open. The 30-year-old defeated his compatriot in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 to seal a berth in the semi final.

After winning the French Open Junior championship in 2003, Wawrinka will be keen on getting into the finals and win his second Grand Slam of his career. The world number eight is two wins away from winning the tournament.

Meanwhile, Tsonga did not have an easy route to make it to the last four of the Roland Garros as he defeated Kei Nishikori in a five-set thriller. The Frenchman won the first two sets comfortably. However, Nishikori bounced back by winning the next two sets to level the score.

Tsonga made no mistake in the final set and he won the match 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3. The winner of the first semi final clash will face either Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray as the latter two will take on each other in the second semi final clash on Friday.
