Sony and Naughty Dog have announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is getting a new co-op and single player Survival mode that will launch in December. The horde mode tasks up to three players with surviving fifty waves of enemies across ten maps.

"If you played Co-Op Arena from Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, you're going to feel right at home in Survival," read the announcement post on the PlayStation Blog.

"We've built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety. From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill."

A new trailer was also released for the mode, which will be made available to all players for free. That trailer is embedded below.

"You'll face off against Shoreline mercenaries, heavily armoured Brutes, Snipers, Hunters and more, that will only get more precise, more aggressive and better equipped as time goes on. Every 10 waves culminate in an intense boss battle, including our all-new Pirate Warlords.

" To reach wave 50, you'll need to work your way through objective modes where victory depends on defending a particular area, collecting treasures within a time limit, or taking out marked enemies. We might even throw a curveball at you from time to time, like when an active modifier makes it so only pistols, headshots, or melee attacks do damage to enemies."

Completing objectives and taking out enemies will reward players with in-game currency to spend on new weapons, gear and abilities acquired from crates around the map. The mode also includes its own progression system and loadouts, separate from the game's competitive multiplayer.

Uncharted 4: Survival will be playable at the PlayStation Experience (PSX) fan expo taking place 3-4 December in California. No specific release date was announced.

Naughty Dog has said it is at work on single player DLC for what is expected to be the developer's final entry in the Uncharted series. An announcement regarding this could be made at PSX or at The Game Awards, which take place that same weekend.
