Naughty Dog has announced that the Survival mode for its immensely successful action-adventure Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be released this week along with a multiplayer update. Announced in an official blog post, the developer said the new content will include the Survival mode's solo and cooperative capabilities as well as new content for the game's competitive player mode including new maps, mode, weapons and more.

On Tuesday (13 December), the developer will host a live stream on Twitch showing off the game's new multiplayer content and extended gameplay from the incoming Survival mode at 2pm EST (7pm GMT).

The new wave-based Survival mode will have up to three players taking on swarms of powerful enemies across 10 maps, including "Shoreline mercenaries, heavily armoured Brutes, Snipers, Hunters and more, that will only get more precise, more aggressive and better equipped as time goes on."

After every 10 waves, players will have to encounter "an intense boss battle, including our all-new Pirate Warlords."

"If you played Co-Op Arena from Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, you're going to feel right at home in Survival," the developer wrote in a PlayStation blog post in November. "We've built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety. From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill."

In order to reach level 50, players will have to complete various objectives "where victory depends on defending a particular area, collecting treasures within a time limit, or taking out marked enemies." The developer noted to watch out for a few surprises in store as well such as "when an active modifier makes is so only pistols, headshots, or melee attacks do damage to enemies."

Completing these objectives and taking out enemies will earn players in-game cash that can be used to unlock and equip weapons and gear through arsenal crates around the map. The Survival mode also features its own progression system, Relic Challenges and loadouts.

"Enemies will adapt to your increased firepower and there are multiple difficulties to choose from," the developer noted. "Those that finish Survival on Hard Mode will unlock Crushing Mode, which as the name suggests, is the ultimate test of your will and determination."

The developer also released a new trailer for the mode that is embedded below.

At PlayStation Experience 2016, Naughty Dog announced a brand new standalone DLC game in the series called Uncharted: The Lost Legacy that will star the beloved Chloe Frazer and Uncharted 4 villain Nadine Ross.

Set in India, The Lost Legacy will take place after Uncharted 4 where Chloe and Nadine team up to recover the lost tusk of Ganesh. The upcoming DLC game will release in 2017.
