A 41-year-old mother from Wisconsin has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and is being held on a $1 million (roughly £750,000) cash bond after allegedly stabbing her 14-year-old daughter to death, saying to authorities that she had committed the crime to 'protect her from Elon Musk.'

The incident took place in the Town of Turtle, Rock County, Wisconsin, according to court documents and law enforcement sources. Tyiece Oninski reportedly called Rock County Communications Centre on the morning of 20 March and confessed to killing her daughter, Kuren Rein, the night before.

During the 13-minute call with dispatchers, Oninski said she had attempted to take her own life after the stabbing and maintained the unusual claim that the homicide was meant to safeguard her daughter from the billionaire tech executive.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office released a statement on 24 March on the incident. 'On March 20, 2026 at approximately 7:56 a.m., the Rock County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check in the 2000 block of E. Gorton St. in the Town of Turtle, County of Rock, State of Wisconsin,' the media release said.

Also according to the media release, a 14-year-old was found 'decedent inside the residence,' and a suspect, Tyiece Oninski, was subsequently arrested for first-degree intentional homicide. The Rock County Medical Examiner's Office

Chilling 911 Call and On-Scene Details

According to the criminal complaint shared by Law & Crime, Oninski spoke at length with dispatchers after contacting authorities, telling them 'She's dead, honey. She needs a hearse' when asked whether her daughter needed an ambulance. She was the one in need of the ambulance, saying, 'I attempted to kill myself afterwards but ... didn't work,' per People.

Oninski allegedly told authorities she had sustained injuries 'in the bedroom, where I murdered my daughter,' and that she had wounded herself in the neck, lungs, chest, and heart. She also told them that she wanted to 'protect her from somebody else,' pertaining to Elon Musk, which is why she killed Kuren. It is unclear why Oninski felt the need to protect Kuren from Musk.

The complaint also stated that when Oninski got to hospital, she proceeded to ask, 'So is my name like, all over the news yet?' and was disappointed with the answer.

Officers responded to the home to find Kuren dead from multiple stab wounds. A knife and sheath were located by EMTs near Kuren's body.

When deputies located Oninski at the scene, she had suffered deep cuts to her neck and wrists, consistent with a suicide attempt. Oninski was transported to a hospital for treatment, where a toxicology screening reportedly showed benzodiazepines, amphetamines, and THC in her system.

Oninski is scheduled to appear in court on 14 April. Investigators have said there is no evidence linking Elon Musk to the family or to the motive beyond Oninski's statements during the call and subsequent interviews.

GoFundMe Aides Victim's Brother

Friends, family and community members have reacted with shock and sorrow to the teen's death. A GoFundMe campaign launched to assist with funeral expenses and to support Kuren's brother has raised significant contributions.

The fundraiser wrote, 'We are coming together to support a young man who has just lost his sister in a devastating and unthinkable way at the hands of their own mother.'

'No one should have to face something like this, especially at such a young age. As he navigates this overwhelming grief, we want to ease the burden of funeral expenses so he can focus on healing and remembering his sister,' it further stated.
