Jaden Smith's bleached dreadlocks had become a part of his signature style. That is up until his dad Will Smith took a blade to them. The Suicide Squad actor shared photos of him with his son and the shorn off locks, in a post on Facebook on 11 April.

The dramatic change is part of Jaden's transformation for a role in the film Life In A Year in which he is required to sport a close-crop haircut. "Getting Jaden Smith ready for the first day of filming #LifeInAYear... maybe I should've used scissors?!" Smith captioned the photos.

In one image, Smith and his 18-year-old son are seen posing with the recently cut-off dreads while in another comic photo, the 48-year-old poses with the hair on top of his own head.

A fan later posted images of The Pursuit Of Happiness duo on set in Toronto, Canada in which Jaden's newly shaved head and natural hair colour are visible.

The younger Smith stars alongside Cara Delevingne in the romantic drama which tells the story of a 17-year-old boy who, on learning that his girlfriend is dying, plans to set up their entire life together, all in the year she has left. The film is being helmed by director Mitja Okorn and produced by Will Smith.

Jaden last appeared on the big screen across from his father in the 2013 sci-fi action film After Earth, and appears in the Netflix hip-hop musical drama The Get Down. Part two of the series' season 1 released on 7 April.
