Zayn Malik has dyed his hair bright pink. The former One Direction singer debuted his new look on Twitter a day before Valentine's Day, sending his legions of fans into a frenzy.

The 23-year-old has been changing up his style since he sensationally quit the British boy band in March 2015. Known for expressing himself in his body art and hairstyle, he has previously gone bleach blonde, grey and green, but the bold pink is his most daring transformation yet.

On Friday 12 February, singer Adán Allende posted a selfie with Malik who was sporting his new hairstyle. "It was a pleasure meeting Zayn Malik today. #awesomeguy #grateful #greatsinger #gentleman," he wrote on Twitter.

And his newly pink locks went down well with the fans who gushed about his hair on Twitter. One fan described the singer as a living, breathing work of "art", while others were left in awe. "I knew I was going to die the moment I opened this", wrote an excited fan. "You made my day with this selfie" said another.

It's in contrast to his edgy look for the video for his first solo single Pillowtalk, in which the Bradford born star is seen posing seductively with model girlfriend Gigi Hadid while singing about sex.

As well as his own blossoming romance, Malik has a lot to celebrate after debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 'Pillowtalk' also topped the On Demand Songs and U.S. Digital Songs chart and reached number one in the UK following its release on January 29.

The track sold 267,000 downloads - the highest one-week sales of 2016 - and became the fastest song by a debut artist to reach number one on Spotify's global chart.

The singer was overwhelmed by the reaction. "Thank you to all my fans and supporters. We have achieved this together and I am grateful," he tweeted. "I can't explain the love and gratitude i feel today, thank you for making this happen (sic)."

Since leaving One Direction, Malik has spent time working on his debut solo album, titled BeFour. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he revealed that his new solo material will reveal a raunchier side to the teen heart-throb.
