The 2014/15 UEFA Europa League play-off draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday. The draw will include 62 teams challenging for a place in the main draw of the 2014/15 Europa League.

Overview

Seven teams from across Europe have already qualified for the group stages, Sevilla (Spain) as the holders of the cup, Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine), Fiorentina (Italy), Wolfsburg (Germany), Everton (England), Estoril Praia (Portugal) and Guingamp (France).

Apart from the seven teams that have gained direct entries, there are teams that are arriving from the Champions League qualifiers. All the teams that lost their Champions League third round qualifying matches, have been added to the Europa League play-off list.

The Draw Process

Groups 1 – 5

There are 10 teams in each of the five groups and each team is ordered randomly and identified by numbers. In every group, the seeded teams are given the numbers from 1 to 5 and the unseeded teams from 6 to 10.

Two bowls are prepared ahead of the draw, the first bowl contains all the seeded teams (all balls containing slips in them with the numbers 1 to 5 are placed in the first bowl) and the second bowl contains all the unseeded teams (all the balls with slips numbered from 6 to 10).

An empty bowl is placed in the middle and at random one ball is selected from each bowl and placed in the empty one. They are then shuffled and one ball is picked, and it will reveal a number, and that team will play the first-leg of the match at home. The second ball from the middle bowl is revealed to complete the pairing.

The same routine continues to complete the remaining pairings for the play-off draw.

Group 6

This group contains 12 teams, and teams are in random order identified by numbers, similarly teams from 1 to 6 are the seeded teams and the teams with the number 7 to 12 are the unseeded teams. The procedure for the draw is the same as mentioned above.
