Amanda Seyfried Split Reason: Inside 'Right Move' That Ended Her Nine-Year Marriage to Thomas Sadoski
The actors said they had been separated privately for some time and have not disclosed a specific reason for the split

Celebrity couple Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have confirmed the end of their nine-year marriage, revealing that they had quietly been separated 'for a while' before making the break-up public.
The actors announced their split in a joint statement on 15 September, describing the separation as the 'right move' for their family while making clear that their bond has not disappeared. Seyfried, 40, and Sadoski, 50, married in 2017 and share two children.
Why Separation Was the 'Right Move'
Despite confirming their separation, Seyfried and Sadoski have not revealed a specific reason or incident behind the decision to end their marriage.
'We have been separated for a while, and it's proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,' the couple told People. 'We've got each other forever, and it's GOOD.'
Their statement did not disclose when they separated or whether divorce proceedings have begun. It also offered no suggestion of acrimony between the pair.
Speculation about their relationship had emerged earlier in September after Seyfried was reportedly seen without her wedding ring at the Toronto International Film Festival. However, neither actor publicly addressed the state of their marriage until their joint statement.
Split Comes After Seyfried Praised Sadoski's Sacrifices
The separation comes months after Seyfried publicly discussed how Sadoski supported her increasingly busy acting career.
Speaking to Vogue in January 2026, the Mamma Mia! star said her husband 'sacrifices a lot for me' while discussing the demands created by her work and family life. She also acknowledged the extraordinary career opportunities she was receiving at the time.
Seyfried had been juggling projects, including The Testament of Ann Lee, The Housemaid and Long Bright River.
There is no evidence, however, that their careers or work schedules caused the separation.
Seyfried also posted a photo of Sadoski on Instagram Stories on 15 September, the same day their split was announced, showing him posing with a gecko and calling him a '#reptiledad'.
How Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski Met
Seyfried and Sadoski first met in 2015 while starring in the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By. They later reunited while working on The Last Word, where they played love interests.
Their relationship became romantic in 2016, and the pair became engaged later that year before quietly eloping in March 2017.
Sadoski later recalled that they went into the countryside with an officiant for an intimate ceremony involving just the couple.
Days after their wedding, they welcomed their daughter, Nina. Their son, Thomas Jr., followed in September 2020.
Inside Their Private Family Life
Seyfried and Sadoski largely kept their children away from Hollywood attention, establishing their family life on a farm in upstate New York. Their relationship, nevertheless, occasionally entered the spotlight.
Seyfried thanked Sadoski while accepting her 2022 Emmy for The Dropout, while he accompanied her to The Crowded Room premiere in 2023. That year, Seyfried described their parenting dynamic as 'yin and yang,' while the couple also worked together supporting War Child USA.
For now, the only reason they have publicly given for their split is that separation proved to be the right arrangement for their family. Neither has disclosed a more specific cause behind the end of their nine-year marriage.
