Beyonce set off a minefield of speculation after she dropped her sensational work of video art Lemonade in a world premiere event on HBO on Saturday (23 April.) The musical tirade sparked rumours that husband Jay Z had cheated on her, following telling references to "Becky with the good hair" in the track Sorry.

Since dropping the video bombshell that got everyone talking, Beyonce herself has gone quiet on the subject of her husband's alleged infidelity. As she took to the stage for the first performance of her Formation tour, the singer seemed to want to silence the rumours as she performed an emotional rendition of her song Halo to Jay Z who watched from the audience. "I want to dedicate this song to my beautiful husband," she said, "I love you so much."

The touching display may well have been an attempt to alleviate speculation that the pair are on the brink of divorce, however, the absence of their wedding rings, seemed to tell a different story. While the 34-year-old took to the stage at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida without her $5m (£3.4m) diamond ring, Jay Z-s wedding band was also noticeably absent according to Mirror online.

In the video for Don't Hurt Yourself, Beyonce sings: "If you try this shit again, you gon' lose your wife," as she throws off her ring. While the controversy around Lemonade has been dismissed as a publicity stunt, the absence of their wedding bands just days after the furore surrounding the cheating rumours, seem to hint that something is yet amiss.

Fans of the Queen Bey went on the rampage on social media launching a verbal assault on Rachel Roy, the ex-wife of Jay Z's former partner Damon Dash, who was suspected of being the other woman. The fashion designer was compelled to break her silence following the vitriolic backlash, issuing a statement denying that she had any personal involvement with the rapper. She posted: "I respect love, marriages, families and strength. What shouldn't be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind."

Rita Ora too, was hurled into the arena after she seemed to be making cryptic allusions to Lemonade in an Instagram post. The Body on Me singer similarly responded by slamming speculation of her involvement with the rapper as she hailed the "Queen Beyonce."

As the identity of "Becky with the good hair" remains a mystery, if the music power couple want to lay the cheating rumours to rest once and for all, Jay Z might be advised to put the ring back on it.
