Christmas is just around the corner and many of us are planning to travel to see family and friends over the festive season. Check our guide to travel in the capital to make sure you don't get caught out by any changes to services.

This week, a Southern Rail strike has disrupted travel for commuters travelling into London, as services on all routes have been suspended. You can find out more about which Southern services are operating over Christmas and the New Year here.

Which London Underground services are running?

Christmas Eve: A normal service will run but the last trains will finish earlier and there will be no night tube.

Christmas Day: There is no service on the tube.

Boxing Day: There will be a Sunday timetable starting at 7.45am, but no Waterloo and City line. There will be disruptions on the District, Circle and Bakerloo lines.

New Year's Eve: A night tube service will operate, with free travel between 11.45pm and 4.30am.

New Year's Day: A normal service will operate until noon, after which tubes will run on a Sunday timetable.

Which London Overground services are running?

Christmas Eve: A normal service will operate but the last trains will finish at 9.30pm.

Christmas Day: There will be no service.

New Year's Eve: A Saturday service will run, but there will be no service between Romford and Upminster. The same as the Underground, travel on the Overground will be free from 11.45pm until 4.30am.

Services on the Stratford to Camden Road line, the Highbury & Islington to West Croydon line, and the Highbury & Islington to Crystal Palace line will finish between 2.50am and 4am, so check before you travel. Trains on the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town / Cheshunt line will run every hour throughout the night.

New Year's Day: A Sunday timetable will run with no service between Romford and Upminster.

Which buses will operate?

Christmas Eve: There will be a normal bus service but no night buses. Bus routes that normally run for 24 hours will end at midnight.

Christmas Day: No buses will run.

Boxing Day: Most routes will run a Sunday services.

New Year's Eve: There will be a normal service with free travel between 11.45pm and 4.30am. There are diversions planned in central London due to the The London Eye firework display.

New Year's Day: A Sunday service will run on all bus routes.

Which DLR services will run?

Christmas Eve: Last DLR trains will run at 10.50pm.

Christmas Day: There will be no DLR service.

Boxing Day: Trains will run every 10 minutes.

New Year's Eve: A Saturday service will run with free travel from 11.45pm until 4.30am. These services will run every 15 minutes throughout the night.

New Year's Day: DLR trains will run overnight and a Sunday timetable will operate from 10am.

What about cycling?

Some bicycle docking stations will be closed from 10am on Saturday 31 December until either Monday 2 January or Tuesday 3 January.
