Felix Baumgartner's Final Video Posted Before His Death; Tributes in His Honour Pour In
Fearless Felix posted a video of him working on the glider he used during his death

Fans of Felix Baumgartner are mourning after news broke out that the daredevil skydiver had died following a paragliding accident 17 July 2025 in Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy. The accident happened about 4 p.m.
According to reports, the 56-year-old Austrian was flying a motor-powered paraglider when he lost control of it and went plummeting into the pool area of a hotel.
Before his death, Baumgartner posted a video of him working on a glider, the same glider that he was maneuvering during the accident, captioning the post 'Man at work'.
He also posted on his Instagram Stories a video of him paragliding in circles over a field, with the words 'Too much wind'.
A few days prior, Baumgartner also posted a selfie taken almost directly above the area where he plunged with the caption, 'Flying holiday greetings from Fermo Italy. Where are you vacationing this year'?
Felix Baumgartner Died in Mid-air After Suffering Cardiac Arrest
Baumgartner's death was not caused by his crash to the ground. Some media reports claim that he was already dead before he crashed into the pool area of the hotel. He had suffered a cardiac arrest mid-air, believed to be the cause of why 'Fearless Felix' lost control of the motor-powered paraglider. He was reportedly not feeling well before he took off.
Guests and staff of the hotel tried to revive him. Emergency responders, who arrived shortly, called for an air ambulance so Baumgartner could be brought to the Torrette Hospital in Ancona, but it was to no avail as he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baumgartner's wife, Mihaela Schwartzenberg, who was also in Italy as they were vacationing in the country, has yet to issue an official statement.
Tributes Pour In for Felix Baumgartner
Baumgartner was best know for his 'Stratos Jump' back in October 2012, becoming the first human to break the sound barrier without the aid of a machine. With the backing of Red Bull, the event was live streamed and over eight million people watched as he ascended 39 kilometers above the earth onboard a helium balloon before leaping back down to earth. He was garbed in a specially designed pressure suit.

'Thank you, Felix. Thank you for being exactly who you were. Clear, demanding and critical. With others, but most of all with yourself', the post stated. 'Unfortunately, many never got the chance to see how kind and big-hearted you were. How warm, sensitive and supportive.
