Few love stories enjoy so traditional and wonderful an end as a fairy tale. We were so fortunate as to witness one such last year, when Prince William married long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton. Now addressed as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine were married on April 29, at Westminster Abbey in London.

Westminster Abbey must hold a special place in William's life. It was where the funeral service for his mother was held, in 2011, and it was where he married his wife, 14 years after.

Royal weddings anywhere in the world are always followed keenly and those among the British royal family even more so. This has particularly been the case since Charles, the Prince of Wales and the late Lady Diana Frances Spencer, were married, on 29 July, 1981 at London's St Paul's Cathedral. Unfortunately, although their wedding was widely acclaimed as a "fairytale wedding," the couple divorced in 1996.

Charles and Diana knew each other for several years but were only involved in a romantic relationship a year before they were actually married. Kate and William, on the other hand, were in a committed relationship for nearly a decade before they were married.

For their first anniversary then, the couple is said to have planned for a private and quiet celebration, away from the public spotlight and the media and, of course, the paparazzi.

While we await more details of how Kate and William might spend their first anniversary (and how they actually do), IBTimes UK revisits blissful memories of the royal wedding and brings an assortment of pictures of the wedding at Westminster Abbey, where the long-time lovers exchanged vows and said "I do."
