Kehlani Hospitalised and 'Not Cleared to Sing' Just Weeks After Discussing Extreme Bipolar Routine
Kehlani has been hospitalised and cancelled two tour dates after being unable to swallow, shortly after detailing the extreme routine she uses to manage bipolar disorder

Kehlani has been hospitalised and forced to cancel two tour dates after waking unable to swallow and in severe pain, leaving the singer not cleared to sing just weeks after detailing the extreme routine she relies on to manage her bipolar disorder.
The news came after the 31-year-old posted an Instagram update on Wednesday, 26 August, explaining she had spent the night in hospital and would miss her scheduled shows in Camden, New Jersey, and the Washington, DC area.
'After two off days feeling completely normal, I've been up all night unable to swallow & in so much pain,' she wrote. 'I just left the hospital & am not cleared to sing for the next two shows. I'm so sorry.'
Kehlani Tour Cancellations Spark Concern
Kehlani said her team was working on a solution for ticket holders and confirmed the tour would resume in Virginia, with her next scheduled performance at the Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront in Richmond on Saturday, 29 August.
She did not disclose a specific diagnosis, and representatives had not provided further medical details beyond her social media statement.
'Breaks my heart to have to ever do this,' she added. 'I do everything I'm supposed to to ensure my health stays up to par & it still isn't guaranteed.'
For fans who had been tracking her wellbeing closely, the timing felt jarring. Only days earlier, she had spoken in striking detail about the non-negotiable habits she uses to stay well while touring.
To recall, in a Billboard cover story published on 20 August, Kehlani revealed she is clinically diagnosed with bipolar disorder and described a strict wellness routine built around medication, daily gym sessions, yoga, walks, time in nature, prayer and a relationship with God.
'I have to have a routine supporting my wellness so I can freaking survive,' she said, describing the industry cycle of late-night studio sessions and missed daylight.
Kehlani Hospitalised and Bipolar Routine Under Spotlight
The juxtaposition has sparked fresh conversation online about how even the most disciplined self-care cannot fully insulate artists from sudden health crises.
Kehlani first publicly shared her bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder diagnoses in April 2025, and has since framed her routine as essential rather than optional.
In the Billboard interview, she was blunt about the demands of music industry schedules. 'You get in this cycle where you wake up at 6 p.m. because you were at the studio until 7 a.m.,' she said.
'You've missed a whole day of sunshine. There's no meal. You go back to the studio at 8 p.m. You grind or die.' Her answer was structure, 'I take medicine. I have to go to the gym; it's not an option. I have to do yoga, take walks. I have to spend time in nature, sit in the park or go wiggle my toes in somebody's grass. I have to build a relationship with God. I have to pray.'
Fans reacted with a mix of worry and admiration for her candour. Some noted the cruel irony of falling ill immediately after outlining such a rigorous regimen, while others emphasised that managing a chronic condition does not make someone immune to unrelated medical issues.
Nothing is confirmed beyond her own statement, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt, but the core facts are clear: she was hospitalised, she cannot sing for the two cancelled shows, and the tour is set to continue in Richmond.
For now, the focus is on her recovery and the logistics of rescheduling. Her message to Camden and DC was apologetic but firm about priorities. 'My team is working on a solution,' she wrote. 'We will pick back up in Virginia.'
