Kourtney Kardashian has explained why Jennifer Lawrence's criticism provoked such an angry reaction, saying the actress' comments landed when she already felt overwhelmed by scrutiny.

The reality star revisited the exchange during the Season 8 premiere of The Kardashians, released on 8 October. Speaking to friend Simon Huck, she described both her initial anger and the softer view she took after watching Lawrence's interview again.

The episode also revealed that Lawrence had contacted her privately. What began with an insult and an expletive-filled response eventually led to an apologetic email and jokes about treating the Oscar winner like another Kardashian sister.

Why Lawrence's Comment Hit a Nerve

Kourtney recalled her reaction after her mother, Kris Jenner, praised Lawrence and Emma Stone following a conversation with the two actresses.

'F*** that bitch Jennifer Lawrence,' Kourtney remembered saying, according to Entertainment Weekly's account of the episode. She explained that the criticism came during a difficult period when the family's show was airing, leaving her feeling that viewers were turning against her.

Her explanation centred on the timing of the remark and her emotional response. After revisiting the interview, she acknowledged that Lawrence's comments were less offensive than she had initially thought.

That distinction changes the meaning of the outburst. The premiere shows Kourtney reflecting on her reaction rather than responding to a new comment from Lawrence that week.

What Jennifer Lawrence Originally Said

The original exchange appeared in a Vanity Fair lie detector interview with Robert Pattinson, published on 7 November 2025. Asked about following the Kardashians, Lawrence said she had been keeping up through TikTok rather than watching that season. She then described Kourtney as 'more annoying than ever.'

'Everything has to be an announcement,' Lawrence explained, citing Kourtney's remarks about clothing choices and not having a television in her bedroom. Her complaint concerned the way those everyday decisions were presented on the programme.

Lawrence subsequently revisited the fallout during her 20 January appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. She reflected on how blunt interview comments could become headlines and suggested she should do fewer press appearances.

That discussion showed she was aware of the attention her words had attracted months before Kourtney's side of the exchange aired.

The Apology Email and a Sisterly Joke

According to Kourtney, Lawrence asked Kim Kardashian for her email address before sending a message explaining herself.

'I just feel like I'm one of your sisters,' Kourtney quoted Lawrence as writing. She described the email as 'so nice' and told Huck that she had not yet replied when their conversation was filmed.

Kourtney also recounted joking that, if Lawrence considered herself a sister, she could receive the same treatment. She suggested a confrontation modelled on her notorious fight with Kim, which aired in 2020.

The remarks about slapping Lawrence were framed as jokes within that conversation. They were accompanied by Kourtney's acknowledgement that she had taken the original criticism personally and now viewed it differently.

By the end of the exchange, Kourtney was considering a humorous reply to the email. Her account offered an explanation for the anger while also showing how the private message had helped defuse it.
