Lucas Remaining Positive Despite Injury Setback
Lucas Leiva out for three months as Liverpool look to other options in the midfield
Lucas Leiva is set for another spell on the sidelines for Liverpool, with the midfielder sustaining a thigh injury in a warm up on Sunday as Liverpool prepared to face Manchester City.
Sky Sports reports that Lucas will be out for at least three months, in an injury nightmare that seems to keep going for the defensive midfielder, who has already spent half a season on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
Lucas played an important part in Liverpool's campaign last season, and the club sorely missed his absence, making this setback even harder to swallow.
"No words to describe my feelings at the moment," he wrote on his Twitter. "It is been hard to be positive but I am sure better days will come. YNWA."
It was reported this week that Jay Spearing would be sent on loan to Bolton, but now that Lucas is out, the midfielder could find himself with a much more busy role at Merseyside if the club are unable to find a replacement before deadline day.
Nuri Sahin is also believed to be an option, with the Turkey international joining the club last weekend.
