AC Milan are ready to listen to offers for Stephan El Shaarawy with the forward struggling to build on his impressive last campaign in which he scored 16 league goals in his 37 appearances.

The 21-year-old has struggled with injuries which has led to him featuring in just two league games this season, though even upon his return he must compete with Mario Balotelli and Robinho for a regular starting berth.

Now reports in Italy suggest that Milan are ready to listen to offers in the region of €20m as they look to raise funds after a difficult start to the season.

Liverpool have been consistently linked with the Italy international in recent weeks and may well decide to make an offer in January if manager Brendan Rodgers feels there is a genuine chance of landing the forward.

The Reds have made an impressive start to the season but have been heavily reliant on Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, with summer signing Iago Aspas struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Rodgers has continually stated that he will look to further strengthen his squad in January and El Shaarawy has shown that he can be a genuine threat, scoring twice in the Champions League last season.

Liverpool showed last season that they can still attract big players even without Champions League football, as they convinced Philippe Coutinho to leave Inter Milan in order to move to Anfield.

The Brazilian has been a revelation since moving to the Merseyside club and Rodgers may well hope that a similarly high profile signing this January could help the side push for a place in the top four.

Despite his limited game time this season, El Shaarawy gained interest from a number of European clubs over the course of the summer after ending the campaign as Milan's top scorer.

Should Milan decide to cash-in during the January transfer window then it is likely that Liverpool would face stiff competition from several European clubs.
