Two people have died and another two were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a shooting this morning in a small village in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed officers were on the scene of a shooting incident within the Drummeer Road area of Maguiresbridge.

'We can confirm two people have died, and two people are being treated in hospital for serious injuries,' they said.

'We can advise there is no ongoing risk to the public,' they added.

No details about those involved or the motive for the shooting were given.

Emergency Services Were Called Early Wednesday Morning

A 999 call was made to emergency services at 8:21am on Wednesday. The scene at Drummeer Road was cordoned off by officers, who arrived alongside the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).

'NIAS dispatched three Emergency Ambulances, one Rapid Response Paramedic, two Ambulance Officers and an Ambulance Doctor to the incident. Ambulance control also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance, with HEMS team on board, to attend,' a spokesperson from the NIAS said.

'Following assessment and initial treatment at scene, one patient has been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by Air Ambulance and another to South West Acute Hospital by Ambulance,' they added.

The village of Maguiresbridge is about 120km southwest of Belfast.

Drummeer Road is currently closed which may lead to delays on the A4 Belfast Road, police have warned.

'An update will follow in due course,' Police Fermanagh and Omagh said.

Public Urged Not To Speculate

As we await more details from local authorities, concerned members of the public have come together on a Northern Ireland subreddit to discuss circulating rumours about the incident– despite being urged not to.

'Please do not speculate, let the investigation run its course,' a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly from the area, Jemma Dolan, said.

'I have been speaking to @PSNIFermOmagh this morning about an incident in Maguiresbridge. I am in shock but my initial thoughts are with the deceased & their wider family circle.' she posted on X.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Diana Armstrong took to Facebook to 'ask that the public allow space for the investigation to proceed and respect the privacy of those involved at this difficult time.'

She referred to the shooting as 'heartbreaking and distressing news.'

'The loss of life and the serious injuries reported have shocked the local community. My office has been in contact with the PSNI this morning and we are continuing to monitor the situation closely,' she said.

'My thoughts are with the families of those affected and with everyone in this rural local community as they come to terms with this tragedy,' she added.

First Minister, Michelle O'Neill, took to social media to address the shooting.

'I'm absolutely heartbroken by the news from Maguiresbridge today. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the local community,' she wrote on X.

'I have no doubt that the people of Maguiresbridge will come together and support one another through this incredibly difficult time,' O'Neill added.
