A 45-year-old man has been charged with murder after his wife, GP Hannah Cain, was found dead at their home in Dersingham, Norfolk, near the Sandringham Estate.

Mark Cain, of Fern Hill, Dersingham, was charged with Hannah's murder on Tuesday, 6 October, after police were called to the property by the ambulance service shortly after 2:20am on Sunday. Hannah, who was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Norfolk Police.

Dr Terry was reportedly part of a pool of GPs available to members of the Royal Family staying at Sandringham, with The Sun claiming she was believed to have treated senior royals, including Queen Camilla. Separately, media reports said she was hosting a children's sleepover at her family home when she was found dead.

GP's Royal Connection and Local Work

Dr Terry was listed as a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre, where she worked after spending nine years at Heacham GP Surgery in West Norfolk. She also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a local cosmetic treatments business.

Dr Terry was part of a pool of regional GPs available to provide medical care to members of the Royal Family during stays in the area and was believed to have treated Queen Camilla. The reported connection has not been confirmed by Buckingham Palace, Norfolk Police or the Crown Prosecution Service.

Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following her death. A notice on the practice website said the surgery and dispensary were closed because of 'extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team' and apologised for the disruption.

Dr Terry's family are being supported by specialist officers and have asked for privacy, according to Norfolk Police. Police has not provided details about the reported sleepover or the children who were said to be at the property.

Police Investigation and Post-Mortem

Norfolk Police said officers found the body of a woman in her 40s at the Fern Hill property after being called by the ambulance service. Detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team launched a murder investigation and arrested a man in his 40s.

A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday, 5 October. Norfolk Police said the cause of death is pending further investigation.

The force has not released details about how Dr Terry died or what led detectives to launch a murder investigation. Specialist officers remain involved in the investigation and are supporting her family.

Police have asked anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

Husband Charged and Remanded in Custody

Mark Cain was charged with murder on Tuesday afternoon after the CPS authorised the prosecution. Michael Devaney, a senior Crown Prosecutor, said the decision followed a Norfolk Police investigation into an incident at the Dersingham property.

Cain was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 7 October. The CPS has warned that the proceedings are active and that reporting must not prejudice Cain's right to a fair trial.

Norfolk Police said specialist officers were continuing to support Dr Terry's family, who had asked for privacy.

Cain has not been convicted and the murder charge remains an allegation. The case is now subject to active criminal proceedings.
