Meghan Markle's return to acting appears to be gathering pace despite conflicting reports over her rumoured role in The Gentlemen. While one report claimed the Duchess of Sussex's potential casting in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series had been withdrawn following backlash in the UK, other reports indicate that discussions around her involvement may still be ongoing.

The development comes days after Meghan was linked to the third season of The Gentlemen, with reports initially suggesting she was in talks for a role. Netflix has since officially renewed the series for a third season, although Meghan's involvement has not been confirmed.

With conflicting reports continuing to emerge, her broader return to the screen could still be moving forward, even if her involvement in The Gentlemen remains uncertain.

Royal commentator Bronte McCoy has said a role in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen is just one of several options currently on the table for the Duchess of Sussex, who has already filmed a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.

'It's still in the discussion phase. Contracts haven't been signed, and it's a little way off. We will possibly see her in The Gentlemen, but something else I'm hearing is that with her return to acting and her signalling her interest in it, there actually are a number of offers that they are seriously considering,' McCoy told Sky News.

Meghan is best known for playing Rachel Zane in Suits, appearing in the legal drama from 2011 until 2018 before stepping away from acting around the time of her marriage to Prince Harry. Her potential involvement in The Gentlemen would therefore represent a significant return to scripted television. However, no contract for the role has been publicly confirmed.

Casting Reports Contradictory

Reports about Meghan's potential role have since become contradictory.

Tina Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, claimed on 22 August that Meghan's reported casting in the third season had been withdrawn following a strong backlash in the UK. Brown said the reaction had made it 'untenable' for the production to proceed with Meghan.

However, other reports have suggested that conversations surrounding Meghan and the series may not have ended. The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and other outlets previously reported that she was in discussions for a potential Season 3 role, with no contract in place.

Netflix has now officially confirmed that The Gentlemen will return for a third season. The announcement was made on 24 August, with Guy Ritchie set to return. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 3 September 2026.

As a result, it is more accurate to say Meghan's reported casting remains disputed rather than stating definitively that a role was withdrawn.

Harry and Meghan's Return to the UK Fuels Fresh Speculation

Separately, Harry and Meghan are preparing to spend an extended period in the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has questioned Harry's motives, suggesting reconciliation with the Royal Family may not be his only aim. 'I think that there's an ulterior motive here. And that's the half in half out role that he has been gunning for since 2020,' Schofield said, adding that she did not trust the timing of the reconciliation.

Others have taken a more sympathetic view, suggesting Harry's renewed presence in the UK reflects a genuine desire to repair his relationship with his father, King Charles III. Harry, Meghan and their children privately reunited with the King at Highgrove House in July, marking their first face-to-face meeting with Charles in four years.

For now, Meghan's acting future remains uncertain. But with The Gentlemen officially renewed for a third season and reports pointing to several potential opportunities, the disputed casting story does not appear to have closed the door on her return to acting.
