A knife-wielding intruder attempting to enter the family home of supermodel Miranda Kerr was shot "several times" after stabbing her security guard in the eye. The man reportedly tried to climb a fence to access the property in Malibu, California, where the Australian lives with her five-year-old son, Flynn, late on 14 October.

Kerr's security guard shot the man four times hitting him once in the head, while trying to fend off the attacker, according to The Mail online.

Despite being stabbed in the eye during the fight, it is understood the guard walked unaided onto the Los Angeles County Sheriff's helicopter.

Both men were airlifted separately to a Los Angeles hospital, with the guard taken to a specialist trauma injury centre, shown in a picture tweeted by the Special Enforcement Bureau (below).

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department revealed "neither the guard nor the intruder have life-threatening injuries".

"Deputies responded to a shots fired call in Malibu. They discovered a security guard had been involved in a physical altercation with an intruder. The guard was stabbed in the facial injury and he had minor injuries," they said.

"He produced a handgun and shot the intruder three to four times in the face and torso."

Australian morning show Sunrise reported the man may have been homeless. Officers confirmed he will face charges.

Kerr, 33, bought the property in 2014 following her split from ex-husband Orlando Bloom. The former Victoria's Secret model was not home at the time as she is attending Paris Fashion Week. It is unclear whether any other families members, or her fiancé, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, had been present at the house.

Neighbour Craig Moore told The Sun : "It's kind of a crazy thing to happen out here in Malibu. I guess it happens everywhere but we just don't ever have it happen in our neighbourhood."

The news comes just weeks after socialite and TV personality Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint by masked thieves in a Paris hotel.
