The MTV Movie Awards 2014 has begun at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The main ceremony this year has been touted to have an apocalyptic theme and fans have been warned to expect lots of fire and explosions as MTV attempts to add more drama to the proceedings.

The fun-filled night will honour fan favourite movies and stars with the iconic Golden Popcorn statues. The award show also has unusual awards including the Best Scared A*S S**t Performance, Best Kiss and Best Gut-Wrenching Performance.

Talk show star Conan O'Brien is the host for tonight's award ceremony, so expect a show packed with jokes and witty remarks.

There will be some thunderous music performances too as Eminem and Rihanna are all set to rock the stage with their hit number 'The Monster.' Singer Ellie Goulding will be performing her hit songs. So get the popcorn, take your seat and don't miss out on the spectacular performances.

The event has become infamous for bizarre occurrences, wardrobe malfunctions, epic tantrums and awkward acceptance speeches. The MTV Movie Awards is also popular among fans as it allows them to vote for their favourite movies and film stars for the awards.

The red carpet event has already begun and the fashion police is ready to catch who is hot and who is not.

And for all the Marvel Comics fans, tonight's award show will show the never-before-seen clips of X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The show will also pay tribute to the late Fast & Furious star, Paul Walker.

UK viewers can watch the show on MTV Live HD at 10pm on Monday, 14 April. The repeat telecast will be aired on Tuesday, 15 April at 1pm and Wednesday, 16 April at 4pm. Catch the live stream of the event here.
