Root Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 on Android 4.1.1 XXCLL3 Official Firmware with CF-Auto-Root

Samsung Galaxy Note (N8000) users looking to root the device (after installing official XXCLL3 Jelly Bean firmware) may follow this guide. It should be noted rooting is essential for running third-party root-based apps and installing custom ROMs and system tweaks. This guide uses the CF-Auto-Root tool and Odin.

Important

  • Ensure back-up of all important data
  • Ensure installation of custom Recovery tools, such as ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery
  • Rooting increases the binary flash counter and voids manufacturer warranty. Restore to official firmware to recover warranty
  • IBTimes UK will not be held responsible for damage to the device during this rooting procedure. This guide is meant only for the Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 (N8000). Browse to Settings > About Tablet to verify model number
  • Ensure device is running XXCLL3 official Jelly Bean firmware before proceeding (check this IBTimes UK guide)
  • Ensure battery has at least 80 percent charge
  • Ensure correct USB drivers are installed on computer (download here)
  • Ensure USB debugging mode is enabled (navigate to Settings > Applications > Development)

Root Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) on Android 4.1.1 XXCLL3 Official (Jelly Bean) Firmware

  • Extract CF-Auto-Root zip file to root folder on device (extract will contain .tar file)
  • Extract Odin zip file (extract will contain Odin3 v3.07.exe file and a few others)
  • Switch device off and wait for vibration (five to six seconds) to confirm shutdown
  • Re-start in Download mode (to do so, press and hold Volume Down and Home and simultaneously press Power; a warning message will follow and press Volume Down to enter Download mode)
  • Start Odin (as Administrator) and connect device to computer with original USB cable (a successful connection is indicated by a message from Odin - Added; and a COM port will display a number against a yellow background)
    • Note: If no message appears, try connecting to rear USB port on computer)
  • In Odin, click PDA and select CF-Auto-Root file
  • In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options
  • In Odin, click Start to begin flashing
  • After process is completed, device will reboot automatically (a successful installation is indicated by a message from Odin - Pass)
  • Disconnect device from computer

The Galaxy Note (N8000) is now rooted on Android 4.1.1 XXCLL3 official (Jelly Bean) firmware.
