The Spice Girls have teased a mystery announcement packed with nostalgic clues ahead of their 30th anniversary, after dropping a new 'Wannabe'‑themed video that has sparked fresh speculation about a possible reunion.

The girl group shared a cryptic clip on Wednesday, 9 September, promising an announcement at 2pm BST on Thursday, 10 September.

While they have not revealed exactly what is coming, references to 'Wannabe', their early history and the 30th anniversary of their debut album have left fans wondering whether a reunion could finally be on the cards.

Spice Girls Drop Cryptic 'Wannabe' Teaser

The short clip features a newspaper placed on the staircase of London's St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the location famously used in the music video for 'Wannabe'. The opening of the 1996 hit can also be heard during the teaser, immediately recalling the group's breakthrough era.

The location and soundtrack are only the starting point. The newspaper shown in the video is 'The Stage', the entertainment trade publication that carried the original 1994 advertisement seeking members for the all‑female group that would eventually become the Spice Girls.

The fictional advert asks whether readers are Spice Girls fans who can 'sing and dance' and whether they are 'a superfan, a collector, a music lover'. It then describes the group as a hugely successful global singing and dancing act before directing fans to Thursday, 10 September at 2pm BST.

The advert also includes an instruction that has drawn particular attention: fans will need a 'vinyl or CD player'. That has led to speculation that the announcement could be linked to a special physical release marking the 30th anniversary of 'Spice', the group's debut album.

Is a Spice Girls Reunion Finally Happening?

For fans hoping the clues point towards a full reunion, there is plenty to discuss, but nothing has been confirmed. The Spice Girls' debut single 'Wannabe' turned 30 earlier this year, while their debut album, 'Spice', will reach its 30th anniversary in November.

The album was originally released on 4 November 1996 and remains one of the group's defining releases.

Fans have also highlighted what appears to be the sequence '061126' in a fictional telephone number shown in the teaser.

Some have interpreted that as a possible reference to 6 November 2026, although the group has not confirmed that reading.

That has prompted theories ranging from an anniversary re‑release or special physical edition to a new performance announcement. However, a reunion should not yet be treated as fact.

Earlier this year, Melanie Chisholm appeared to rule out a 2026 reunion tour, saying there was 'no reunion' while adding that the members were still communicating and that she remained hopeful they would perform together again at some point. Melanie Brown also said in April that a reunion tour was not happening for the anniversary.

When Did the Spice Girls Last Reunite?

The prospect of all five members performing together is particularly notable because Victoria Beckham has not performed publicly with the group since their appearance at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

Four members, Mel B, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell, later reunited for the Spice World tour in 2019, but Beckham did not take part.

The five women – Beckham, Bunton, Brown, Chisholm and Halliwell‑Horner – have continued to be linked by reunion speculation as the group's anniversary approached. For now, fans will have to wait until 2pm BST on 10 September to discover what the cryptic teaser means.

Whether it brings an anniversary release, a new project or news on future performances, the Spice Girls have already ensured that talk of a possible comeback has returned.
