Is 'Ted Lasso' Season 5 Happening? Brendan Hunt Weighs in on Season 4's Lack of Cliffhangers
The Coach Beard actor and executive producer says Season 5 is unconfirmed, despite unresolved storylines involving Ted, Roy, Keeley and Rebecca

The future of 'Ted Lasso' Season 5 remains uncertain, with Brendan Hunt revealing that the Season 4 finale deliberately left viewers with questions rather than traditional cliffhangers.
So is 'Ted Lasso' Season 5 still happening? Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard and serves as an executive producer and writer on the Apple TV series, has addressed the possibility of a fifth season, admitting that there are still plenty of stories that could be explored, even if the latest finale was designed to provide a satisfying conclusion.
What Happened in the 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 Finale?
Season 4 ended with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) making a major decision about his future at AFC Richmond. Rather than returning as the manager of the women's team, Ted chose to step down and become an assistant manager alongside Beard.
The decision reflected one of the season's central themes: Ted's desire to spend more time with his son Henry after realising that his commitment to football had once again left him missing important moments in his child's life.
Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds), who has grown considerably throughout the season, takes over as manager of the women's team. There is also a major change involving Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), who accepts an offer to manage Chelsea. However, with Roy and Keeley (Juno Temple) preparing to become parents, his new position could create another challenge for their relationship and family life.
Meanwhile, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) proposes to Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn), while the death of pub owner Mae (Annette Badland) ultimately has a major impact on the future of AFC Richmond. Mae's will prevents Zelda (Tracey Ullman) from gaining control of the club, with her shares returning to Rebecca and allowing her to retain her 51 per cent ownership.
Brendan Hunt Says There Are Questions, Not Cliffhangers
In a new interview, Hunt explained that the writers deliberately avoided ending the season with a traditional cliffhanger. Instead, several storylines have been left open-ended.
'There's not much in the way of cliffhangers,' Hunt said. 'But Ted and Beard as peers instead of hierarchically - I'm curious about that. Roy and Keeley becoming parents - curious about that. Rebecca married, curious about that.'
He added, 'The fellas running the pub, and how's the team going to take to Alice as their leader? These are all just more like questions than cliffhangers. But also, there's not yet any indication that we're going to get to answer those questions. So at the moment, they're still lingering in the air.'
So, Will There Be a 'Ted Lasso' Season 5?
For now, fans will have to wait. Hunt said he is not aware of Jason Sudeikis' plans and suggested that any discussions about the show's future remain between the actor and the relevant decision-makers.
'[Sudeikis] plays the cards close to his chest, and I'm not privy to whatever poker game that I hope is happening between the powers that be,' he said. 'I think we've always basically hoped we were coming back for more than one, but if it ends up just being one, then OK, that's fine.'
'It did end nicely,' Hunt added. 'We'll just have to see.'
That uncertainty is particularly notable because Season 4 itself came after the third season appeared to bring the story to a natural conclusion. The fourth season returned with a new challenge for Ted: coaching AFC Richmond's women's team.
With Season 4 now complete, the door has been left open - but it has not been kicked wide open.
For now, 'Ted Lasso' has delivered an ending that can stand on its own, while leaving enough unanswered questions to make a potential Season 5 intriguing. Whether Apple TV and Sudeikis decide to continue the story, however, remains unknown.
