Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele will hold talks with manager Mauricio Pochettino when he returns for pre-season to establish what role he is to have at the club.

The Belgium international completed a full 90 minutes just twice during the 2014-15 season as Pochettino opted for the youthful pair of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason in midfield.

In March, Dembele admitted his frustration with his frequent spells on the bench and now wants clarification over whether his situation will change in the 2015-16 season.

"After my holidays, I will talk to the boss and my future at Spurs. We will see," Dembele was quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

The ex-Fulham midfielder explained earlier this summer he feels he does not always get the credit he believes he deserves.

"I've played so few minutes, it is a big disappointment to me," Dembele told Belgian outlet Sporza. "At one point I showed what I've got and I thought I took my chance, but as quickly again I fell out of the team.

"Do I get little credit at Tottenham? Yes, I have that feeling at times, but it is ultimately down to me. I have to stay positive. I am still confident."

Should Dembele not be assured of a role at White Hart Lane next season, he could be the next midfielder to leave the club. Spurs have confirmed the departure of Brazil midfielder Paulinho, who has joined Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for a fee of £9.9m, where he will link up with his former international coach, Luis Felipe Scolari.

On 2 July, Lewis Holtby also cut ties with the north London side, making his stay at Bundesliga side Hamburg a permanent one after spending last season on loan in Germany.

Pochettino could continue to trim his squad in the coming weeks by offloading two more midfielders in Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli.

Capoue, who has played a peripheral role at the club since his arrival in 2013, and Stambouli, who only joined from Marseille in the summer of 2014, are both wanted by newly promoted Watford, according to the Daily Mail, who claim a £10m offer is being prepared for the French duo.
