US Transport Secretary Sean Duffy Under Fire Over Sydney Sweeney Breast Remark

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is facing backlash after a resurfaced podcast clip showed him discussing Sydney Sweeney's body and saying men are made by God to want to 'mate with a woman'.

The footage comes from a March 2024 episode of From the Kitchen Table: The Duffys, a Fox Nation podcast Duffy hosted with his wife, Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, before he joined Donald Trump's Cabinet.

The episode was titled 'Can Sydney Sweeney Save America From Going Woke?' and centred on the conservative fascination with Sweeney after her Saturday Night Live appearance.

In the clip, Duffy turns to the camera and says: 'I'm gonna give you my take on Sydney Sweeney's breasts.'

He said the topic had been raised by his wife as part of a discussion about Sweeney, 'wokeness' and gender politics.

Duffy Says 'Men Are Still Men'

Duffy argued that men admiring women should not automatically be treated as toxic.

'If we're honest, men appreciate women, and men that appreciate women are not toxic,' he said in the clip.

He then brought religion into the explanation.

'God made us a certain way to appreciate and want to mate with a woman, and women are made the same way to want to be with a man,' Duffy said. 'I think Sydney Sweeney is just a reminder that men are still men. I'm sorry, we are.'

Campos-Duffy laughed and added: 'And women are still women.'

Duffy repeated the line and added: 'And that's OK.'

At another point, he said Sweeney's body made people want to reproduce and joked that her breasts were 'gonna save America,' according to reports on the resurfaced episode.

Critics Call Out 'Christian Values' Comment

The clip was shared widely this week and quickly drew criticism from journalists and social media users.

Independent journalist Karly Kingsley called Duffy a 'f---ing creep,' while reporter Alex Cole wrote: 'Nothing screams traditional Christian values like publicly discussing a woman's chest and then bringing God into the explanation.'

Another user asked more simply: 'why is our Transportation Secretary telling us this.'

The criticism focused not only on Duffy's comments about Sweeney, but also on the contrast between the clip and his family's frequent public emphasis on Catholic faith and traditional values.

Sweeney Became a Conservative Culture-War Symbol

The original episode aired after Sweeney hosted Saturday Night Live, where she joked about how often the public focuses on her sexualised image. Around the same time, right-wing pundit Richard Hanania published an essay arguing that Sweeney's sex appeal was 'anti-woke', a framing later echoed across conservative media.

Fox Nation's own description of the Duffy episode said the couple would discuss how Sweeney's appearance made Americans remember 'how different men and women are' in a society full of 'gender fluidity'.

Duffy Already Under Scrutiny

Duffy was sworn in as Transportation Secretary on 28 January 2025. The resurfaced clip comes as he is already facing attention over The Great American Road Trip, a new online reality series featuring the Duffy family.

In one episode, Duffy told his daughter Paloma that he and his wife could say no to her attending Harvard, claiming the university could 'corrupt' the minds of 'good young girls'.

The show has also raised questions because it was sponsored by companies with business before the Department of Transportation, including Boeing, Toyota, Shell, Lyft, United Airlines and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
