Xbox Nano Controller Price, Specs and Release Date: What Buyers Need to Know About Microsoft's Smallest Gamepad
The compact wireless controller is designed for younger players, smaller hands and portable gaming

Microsoft has unveiled its smallest Xbox controller yet, squeezing 18 standard gameplay inputs into a device lighter than most smartphones. Priced at just $49.99 (£37.73), the Xbox Nano Controller promises portable gaming without sacrificing familiar controls, but buyers should know about its compatibility, charging requirements and release date before placing an order.
Announced on 14 October, the compact gamepad targets younger players, people with smaller hands and gamers seeking a travel-friendly alternative to conventional controllers. Pre-orders are already open, with its official release scheduled for 4 November 2026.
Xbox Nano Controller Price and Pre-Order Details
The Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99 in the United States, with pre-orders available through Microsoft's official store and participating retailers, including Amazon and Walmart.
Microsoft is positioning the device as an entry-level gaming accessory suitable for families, casual players and those looking for a secondary controller.
Prices vary internationally, meaning buyers outside the US should check their local Microsoft Store or authorised retailers for regional pricing and availability.
Xbox Nano Controller Specs: Size, Weight and Battery
Despite its miniature design, the Xbox Nano Controller retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs found on conventional Xbox controllers. Measuring slightly over five inches long and weighing approximately 3.5 ounces, or 99 grammes, the device is shorter and lighter than most modern smartphones.
It features an internal rechargeable battery, eliminating the need for replaceable AA batteries. However, Microsoft specifies that a USB-C charging cable must be purchased separately. A programmable Action Button allows users to customise shortcuts for taking screenshots, recording gameplay and accessing frequently used functions.
Microsoft has not published a specific battery-life estimate, although its product information warns that battery performance varies depending on usage and connected accessories.
Xbox Nano Controller Compatibility, Supported Games
The controller supports Xbox Wireless for console connections and Bluetooth for compatible devices.
According to Microsoft's official specifications, supported platforms include Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Windows PCs, Android and iOS devices. Bluetooth connectivity also extends to compatible smart televisions. Some functions may be unavailable on certain devices or software versions.
Microsoft has highlighted Minecraft Dungeons II and Forza Horizon 6 as examples of games playable with the controller. The former supports cooperative adventures involving up to four players, while games are sold separately.
Xbox Nano Controller Release Date and Availability
Microsoft's online store lists 4 November 2026 as the official release date, following the opening of pre-orders on 14 October. The initial rollout covers more than 30 markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, Germany and France.
Additional markets are expected to follow, although Microsoft has not announced specific dates for those expansions.
Samsung TV and Meta Quest Offers
Microsoft is also partnering with Samsung and Meta on promotional bundles for US customers during the holiday season. Purchases of select Samsung televisions will qualify for an Xbox Nano Controller alongside a two-month Game Pass Ultimate offer for new subscribers.
A separate Meta Quest promotion will similarly include the controller and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for eligible new members. Compatible Samsung televisions support the Xbox app through Gaming Hub, allowing players to access cloud gaming without a traditional Xbox console.
