GTA 6
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026, with PS5 Pro enhancements confirmed but detailed performance comparisons still unavailable Rockstar Games Website

Rockstar Games' GTA 6 is officially listed as 'PS5 Pro Enhanced' ahead of its 19 November 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Yet buyers considering Sony's £789.99 console still lack a crucial detail. Neither Rockstar nor Sony has explained precisely how the game will improve on the premium hardware.

The distinction matters for anyone considering a new console specifically for 'Grand Theft Auto VI'. A standard PS5 will run the game, while the Pro's enhanced designation provides no details about the practical difference. No PC release date has been announced.

PS5 Pro Support Confirmed, but GTA 6 Specs Still Unknown

The official PlayStation Store labels the game 'PS5 Pro Enhanced'. It does not, however, provide separate resolution targets, frame rates or graphics modes for the two PlayStation models. There is no published promise that GTA 6 will run at 60 frames per second on Pro.

Sony's June promotional announcement said GTA 6 would 'play best on PS5.' It highlighted DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, 3D audio and fast loading. Those are descriptions of PlayStation features, not independently tested comparisons between PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Rockstar offered another glimpse of the game on 27 August with 'Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look'. The developer said the presentation used in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5. Crucially, it did not identify which PS5 model was used or provide side-by-side performance footage.

The enhanced designation raises expectations about sharper visuals, lighting and performance. However, these possibilities should not be mistaken for confirmed GTA 6 specifications. Even a promotional screenshot cannot establish which hardware produced it or how consistently a game performs.

GTA 6 Makes PS5 Pro Price a Tougher Choice

Sony's recommended UK retail price for PS5 Pro is £789.99, compared with £569.99 for the standard PS5. Its US recommended prices are $899.99 (€804.68 and £679.80) and $649.99 (€581.16 and £490.96), respectively. These figures do not guarantee individual retailer prices or stock availability.

For existing PS5 owners, replacing working hardware solely for GTA 6 would mean paying for improvements whose precise form remains unpublished. First-time console buyers face a different calculation. Both machines are supported, but the more expensive model carries the enhanced designation.

Players have been debating that uncertainty online. In an October Reddit discussion, fans questioned when Rockstar might disclose PS5 Pro-specific details. Responses offered different predictions about possible improvements, none of which established official performance specifications.

A premium console may appeal to players seeking enhancements across several games. For GTA 6 alone, however, Rockstar has not demonstrated whether the difference will be dramatic or modest. The confirmed enhanced designation does not answer that question.

GTA 6 Release Date, Story Details and Pre-Orders

Rockstar lists 19 November 2026 as the launch date for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The story follows Jason and Lucia through Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar describes the launch game as a single-player experience.

The UK PlayStation Store prices the Standard Edition at £69.99 and Ultimate Edition at £89.99. Their US prices are $79.99 (€71.52 and £60.42) and $99.99 (€89.40 and £75.53), respectively. Digital pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack and a month of GTA+, which renews automatically unless cancelled.

Rockstar says players can begin pre-loading on 12 November. Its physical edition will contain a download code rather than a disc, another detail worth checking before ordering. Buyers can therefore prepare for release without committing to PS5 Pro.

The remaining platform question concerns PC. 'Grand Theft Auto V' launched on PC in April 2015, but that history offers no dependable timetable for GTA 6. Until Rockstar publishes technical comparisons, a standard PS5 remains a confirmed route into Vice City on launch day.
